You can't just change a characters name like that. Remember what happened when Lyra became "Heartstrings"?

Derpy is a pegasus, so while Bubblecup is proably her G1 counterpart, that does not necessarily mean they share a name. Posy (an Earth Pony) was Fluttershy's G1 counterpart, and Surprise (a Pegasus) was Pinkie Pie's G1 counterpart, but they do not share names.
It's unlikely that Derpy will be named in the show again, so for the time being her (semi-canonical) naming as "Derpy" is still her official name. If they name her again in the show they will probably change her name to something less controversial, however that seems unlikely given the can of worms it would open in the fandom, so in the show she'll probably remain nameless from now on. |

Ditzy was the name that was going to be used before some higher up said to call her Derpy instead.
Although, I think Bubbles would be a great canon name for her because really, imagine Derpy acting like Bubbles from PPG. It totally works. |
