Why did they not continue with Fluttershy's connection with Spike in the first episode? I mean, he was the reason why she decided to open up to Twilight and make friends.
Maybe they decided on which throw away plot to get rid of after the pilot. It was either Spike's crush on Rarity or Fluttershy's curiousty towards dragons. I guess Fluttershy lost. |

^ Considering they've kept Spike's crush since episode one that's fairly unlikely, especially since it's the only real interaction he's had with her. She was a flower girl, he was the ring bearer, they dance at weddings. |

How do we know he didn't dance with all three of them? All we saw was a couple of seconds. Okay, maybe he danced with two of them. I can't imagine Scootaloo wanting to be any part of it. I'm surprised they even got her to wear a dress. |

also this is a canterlot wedding, so there could be different traditions in their weddings, also three flower girls and one ring bearer and were only shown spike and sweetie belle. Applebloom and scooterloo werent even seen after the wedding if i recall, and lastly spike hasnt been showning that much love for rarity since episode 10 so it could mean hes over her, like it is hinted at in dragon quest

^ Where is it hinted at in Dragon Quest that it's over? All it shows is that Spike had something else on his mind, finding out and what he is. Also, let's not forget that Scootaloo hates girly stuff, like dancing, and Applebloom is really bad at it as shown in Show Stoppers.
At the end of the day, the possibility of them dropping one of the few plot points that has been around since the beginning is small, if for no other reason than the show's attempts to keep the episodes watchable in any order. Maybe that will change in season three, but I doubt it since they've put a decent amount of effort into showing the evolution of Spike and Rarity's interaction. |

Also, since this is technically supposed to be about FlutterSpike: I think it's an interesting, if rare, little ship. As for why she stopped being interested in baby dragons, one could easily claim that she thought she was being a bother and decided to back off or something. |

My theory is that the writers made a choice to drop that aspect about Fluttershy. They wanted only 2 ponies close to Spike and that's Rarity and Twilight. Like you said, Spike's crush on Rarity is an integral part of his character so they cannot get rid of that. That's like getting rid of the parties from Pinkie Pie or the apples from Applejack. We got episodes where the writers developed Spike and Rarity's relationship that could really break the series rules about continuity. He confessed his feelings and now she's not ignoring him anymore. The show's writers would never deliberately implement anything in the show that would risk breaking continuity like that unless they weren't planning to do something with it in future episodes by following through with it. |

still they could drop the whole spike x rarity thing, this shows done 360 character shifts before, pinkie pie is the best example look at party of one no one saw her going insane, or to a lesser degree fluttershy in the best night ever or to an even lesser of the lesser putting your hoof down she showed charaterists that werent their before and they popped up again

^ Technically, Cupcakes was posted on Equestria Daily in January while Party of One didn't air til April.
However, what you are talking about is them fleshing out the characters by giving them new traits, not by removing something that's been in place since episode one. |

I've got to admit I've thought about this a little, if for no other reason than their color-schemes are complimentary and she was the first pony to take a shine to him. I was honestly expecting them to become the designated het-ship within the fandom when I watched the first episode two years ago... Cue Rarity being introduced two minutes later (not that I'm complaining).
There's also her lingering fear of dragons, which opens up some interesting possibilities that could be explored. |

I'd like to see a fanfic like that actually. Especially since Fluttershy being afraid of him would make sense as opposed to the idea of Rarity being afraid of an adult Spike. |
