Actually the opposite holds: If male children were favoured, they would keep going until they got one. But the evidence indicates that they stop once they get a female child, which implies that females are favoured over males. |

Maybe it's because they have too many females.

The Pegasi traditionally live in a Spartan military collective. Once they're weaned, they go to flight school and rarely see their parents again. Their unit is their family.
Back in the pre-"Hearth's Warming Eve" times, every Pegasus had to murder an Earth Pony without getting caught in order to graduate. It also helped keep the Earth Ponies sufficiently in fear to ensure they continue providing food to the Pegasi. After the Windigos were dispensed with, the practice faded and only a few fundamentalist sects of Pegasi continued with it even occasionally After Discord was defeated, the rule of Celestia and Luna abolished the Krypteia completely. Pegasi who don't live in Cloudsdale tend to adopt the family practices of the other races of Pony they live around. Thunderlane and Rumble were born and raised in Ponyville, and so have life-long family relationships. Scootaloo, being unable to fly and make it through flight school, was probably sent by her parents to live with friends in Ponyville. Celestia and Luna also abolished the practice of exposing weaker foals on a cloud so they die. |
