She gives it back though. I don't get it. Plus, they're FLOWERS. It's not as if they're actually going to harness some tangible effect or emotional level of self worth. |

Bitch, Rarities Fabulous, she doesn't have to explain shit. |

Well, it's a wedding bouquet.
With it's myth of "whoever gets this, their love would soon come", I think it can put "instant-greed" in every women. |

^ Right, a myth. It's more of an issue regarding jealousy than denying someone of something they actually need. And there are 3 ponies mad at her so two would be mad at least, I believe. |

^ *if one of the three got it I mean |

Possibly the best drama in this show is Rarity constantly struggling with charity and vanity. |

I'm sorry, you guys are only just now figuring out Rarity is selfish? I thought we all figured that out after she manipulated three guys into pulling them all to the Grand Galloping Gala. |
| majob #1405975 2 months ago |
Manipulated how? All she did was ask. The fact that those stallions were attracted to her and wanted to earn her favor just happened to be convenience. |

Saturation? What's that? Honestly, people will try anything to make characters they don't like into the bad guy's. |

@1405890
There were just two guys, not three and they were her neighbors that she politely asked. You are correct, though. She IS selfish, you just used a wrong example. The earliest example of Rarity's selfishness that I could remember was when she was stealing gems from the red dragon in Dragonshy. And the latest being in Sweet and Elite where she placed her OWN personal wants above everyone else's just cause she wanted to be among the popular crowd. She drenched her own cat and almost missed Twi's b-day. Normally, Rarity's selfishness is really just used as few second gags with the exception of SaE where the episode's conflict actually revolves around her self serving nature. Oh and I didn't even mention that Fire Ruby. |

Well you have to remember, what's the point of being generous with something unless it has value to you. If Rarity just gave everything away without ever wanting to acquire anything one she would eventually run out of things to be give out and two it would show those things were not valuable to her and giving away things that mean nothing to you isn't really being generous is it. |

There's a difference between being "generous" and "accommodating".
Rarity is generous. Fluttershy is accommodating. |

@1406140
Trying to get the gems from the Dragon was selfish. Sweet and Elite was too but she had an understandable motivation. She was living her dream and felt she would have better opportunity to make it up to Twilight later whereas the Elite ponies had proven to be more temperamental. She repeatedly take time away from her business to be with her friends and as a result has put her dreams on hold for them, so wanting to make up for lost time is understandable. Furthermore, pursuing what you want is not mutually exclusive to being generous with what you have. Which is applicable to the bouquet. The Fire Ruby was a gift from Spike. She showed genuine warmth and affection towards him, repeatedly praised him openly, made capes in his honor, etc. Rarity's generosity far outweighs her selfishness. However selfishness creates conflict so it is often played up more for the purposes of the show. And also, to be fair generosity is the most "hardcore" element of friendship, it's the most detrimental and depleting. So deviating from it to gain what you want out of life is hardly a big deal. This isnt hard to see. |

I should also mention that selfishness is Rarity's major flaw. The irony is that she is the most generous pony, but also the most selfish. This is dealt with by having her be generous with what she has and selfish in pursuit of what she wants.
Not saying it's okay by any means but it is what she is working on |

@Whatevs
I've been thinking about that fire ruby and what it did and I think that without it, Rarity would have never noticed Spike for who he is. Spike has always been generous to Rarity. Did she really need to wait for him to give her something shiny just to notice his generosity and kindness? Why couldn't she figure that out without that fire ruby? You are right that her greed is her major flaw. It makes her look mean, manipulative and self serving. Its sad but its true. I hope the writers change that some day. |
