Even more of a concern, did the people who commission the artist know that he copied that picture for their commission? That might affect their disposition towards the artist if they knew the paid full price for less actual work from the artist. That'd be like paying a painter to paint a portrait of your wife, and he just takes the Mona Lisa and paints her head on it, then charges you the same price for a full piece.
On the other hand, it might have been the commissioners in the first place showing the artist that picture and asking him to change it to Rarity. Even so, giving credit to the original artist of the parent picture would be a polite and wise thing to do, in order to diffuse any kind of major dispute between them. |
