Yeah, I hate what the fandom did to Trixie. Her appeal was that she's very composed - even when defeated, she remained confident in herself (and she did make an honest effort to fight the Ursa). Really, she's just a narcissistic version of Dash (who, when she felt she was going to lose the Best Young Fliers competition, limited herself to crying - which she managed to get over pretty quickly - instead of having a huge mental break like the other ponies).
Most Trixie fans would have you believe she's all whiny and just another Fluttershy clone. |

Gah. Gilda actually has fairly consistent fanon. Only two problems I ever see. 1)She is a bully. She ain't a bully in canon, she is a dickhole and a bad friend, but not a bully, and 2) she has an abusive past to justify it. Abusive pasts make bullies and sadists, not someone with severe anger issues.
But yeah. **** Twixie fannon. I really like Trixie as she is in canon. NOT a powerful mage, NOT Twilight's ball of huggable pity to be warmed by the soft glow of lesbian hugs, but an arrogant, and thoroughly entertaining showpony. |

i don't get the problem with trixie. she was there to entertain. it was her job. the mane 6 did issue the challenge and trixie got absolutely nothing out of it except a milkshake. saying she defeated an ursa major did screw her over cause snips and snails were idiots but other than that she didn't do anything much but say she was the best at magic.
gilda on the other hand, even if she is just a bitch, i like her cause she had the balls to make fluttershy cry and not give a fuck. |

I don't see how being pissed about her humiliation is 'having no backbone.' It's her being a prideful bitch who hasn't gotten over the fact she was on-upped by someone better than her. More importantly, I am sick and god damn tired of hearing the term "Mary Sue". I doubt anyone here could give a solid definition of it and back up their claims of characters being a "Mary Sue" with evidence from the accused fic. One person I argued this with said Nyx was a Mary Sue, and <i>hadn't even read the story</i>. You don't have to read it, but you look like a damn idiot when you make presumptions of characters without actually knowing them. |

I personally prefer Trixie as a stuck-up attention whore and Gilda as a stone-cold bitch, but don't mind them having a bit of baggage so long as it doesn't weigh them down. So replace Draco with Snape and you've got my head canon, I guess. |

@Anon1400982 Draco Malfoy is not a Mary Sue, nor is Gilda or Trixie, but they all become Mary Sues in most of the generic poorly written fanfics out there.
@Paradox Mary Sue has indeed been misused a lot, but from what I know is that a Mary Sue is a character that has no flaws, can do no wrong, and obnoxiously begs for the viewers love. In cases for canon characters becoming Mary Sues in fanfic, all their mistakes and actions are forgiven or some how justified. Gilda for an example is clearly flawed in canon, a good character for the plot of that episode, but in fanon Gilda lovers come up with ridiculous excuses for her flaws like 'She had mean parents so it's not her fault she was acting mean'. In doing that they are making Gilda into a Mary Sue. |
