Well... if my fancy mathematics are correct, doing this gives us two answers, just because you are using square root.

You see, in square root, you are looking for a number who is the square of of x. For example, let's say our number we selected is 2, so we multiply it by itself "2*2=4". Now, getting the square root of 4 could give us 2 and -2, because "2^ 2" (or "2*2") is equal to 4, but also "-2^ 2=4" ("-2*-2=4", remember that two negatives gives us a positive).

So, with two answers (2 and -2, in this example), we still have left the last step, which is subtracting the original number (2). So we need to make the subtraction with the two answers, which leads us to "2-2=0" and "-2-2=-4".

So at the end, Cherilee is either giving 0 or -4 fucks (which that means she is receiving 4 fucks).

...or I guess that's how it goes... can someone double check it for me?

If you want something unexpected to turn out to zero, try this:

*) Take any number. (A small one.)
*) List all the ways you can write it as a sum of nonincreasing numbers that end in 1, 4, 6, or 9.
*) Now list all the ways you can write it as a sum of decreasing numbers that differ by at least 2.
*) The size of the first group minus the size of the second group is the number of 'em I give.

Group A: 11+1, 9+1+1+1, 6+6, 6+4+1+1, 6+1+1+1+1+1+1, 4+4+4, 4+4+1+1+1+1, 4+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1, 1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1. Nine.
Group B: 12, 11+1, 10+2, 9+3, 8+4, 8+3+1, 7+5, 7+4+1, 6+4+2. Nine.

Difference: zero. Always works.
