Gore for no reason other than you can is fairly pointless, and when the situation does call for blood, or actual full out Gore, the reader has already 'had' the Gore and is not surprised, intrigued or eager to see what comes next.
Gore for dramatic effect is good, because it really rams home how desperate the situation is for the characters involved. |

That's the truly sad bit with this drawing.
The Yellow and Piebald Mares are just so happy to have their Foals, the Green Mare looks sad as she guides the foals to her teats, as if she knows all too soon she will lose them, or she is watching the Orange/Red Mare's suffering and is having mixed emotions, love for her own babies and sorrow for her friend who is now heartbroken. |
