I would have laughed so hard if this is how Twilight rationalized Evil!Cadence's behavior.
SHE'S A FUCKING MARY SUE NOW AND ALL MARY SUES ARE EVIL AND BRAINWASH EVERYPONY AROUND THEM! Kids would have been all "haha what" but adults would have shit themselves. |

Mary Sue is a term that is thrown around WAY to often these days.
Twilight? No. Not really. Now Wesley Fucking Crushing? Definitely. |

But Twilight herself is purple... |

Cadence, on the other hand, still doesn't seem to fit the bill because she's more of a corporate mandate character than a self insertion. |

"I'm not Cadance! I'm my own original character, Bladance!" |

Mary Sue? Are you talking about yourself there, Twi? |

Just like cliche is a literary tool to be applied correctly, just like a Straight Man from any science fiction would look dull and boring in any contemporary setting, Mary Sue (in addition to being a highly subjective concept) is not a bad thing. It is a tool, a plot nuance, a type of character — no less real than any other, fictional or otherwise.
If you need a proof of concept, look at Doctor Who. He's the ultimate Mary Sue and yet the show's been running for over twice my age; what esle can serve as a better proof of that idea. |

I wonder if the Sonic Fandom has Mary Sues?
:D` |

ProfessorOfHoers@1388682 said: You mean fan characters, or the canon ones? And what's the definition of a MAry Sue? I read the wiki on it, and it seemed that almost every character in a show, game, movie, etc. can be classified as a Mary Sue. I think the worst ones are fan creations that are more powerful than anything on the show. THOSE are an eye sore. |
