Ever heard of a couple named Aragorn and Arwen? |
| Anonymous #1382377 2 months ago |
You can say the same thing about spike and rarity |
| Anonymous #1382382 2 months ago |
Arwen sacrificed her immortality so she could get all withered and worm-eaten like her beau.
....So romantic. |
| Anonymous #1382383 2 months ago |
It still sucked for Arwen. And Spike is a little kid and an idiot. |

Why? Because they love each other, that's why.

Also Shinig Armor
I have no idea who the fuck that is |
| Anonymous #1382427 2 months ago |
also, Arwen stopped being immortal when her dad left middle-earth due to only being a half-elf. Cadance has no such option - she's going to outlive him, no matter what. |

Maybe there's no male alicorns?
Also, imagine what a marriage would be like after a couple hundred or thousand years. It's either going to be really good or really, really really bad. |
| picard #1382485 2 months ago |
Why would she foalsit Twilight, who is obviously mortal? |
| Velcro #1382511 2 months ago |
Maybe to make some immortal foals? |
| Anonymous #1382521 2 months ago |
Even immortals like to have relationships. The fact that they'll all die eventually is something you learn to accept after a few centuries. |
| Jack-o-Lantern #1382568 2 months ago |
Maybe she can keep Shining somewhat alive via necromancy?
inb4 zombie Shining Armor. |

Mare and Colt... she likes 'em young |
| Scumbag_Crowley #1382577 2 months ago |
Celestia and Luna are Alicorns. They are basically immortal, and are a mix of Unicorns, Pegasi and Earth Ponies.
Cadence is a Winged Unicorn, which is only a mix of the first two, and is not immortal. Twilight even calls her a Unicorn in the episode, and I quote: "How many Unicorns can just spread love wherever they go? I only know of one! And you're marrying her!" So yeah, Cadance =/= Alicorn. She's a Unicorn with wings, the actual show proves this. |
| Anonymous #1382588 2 months ago |
Better get Shining Armor started on the path to alicornhood. |
| D_Pony #1382609 2 months ago |
Eternity can be a loneny existance
and being so, even the gods can fall into despair as eons may seem like nothing to them. so they choose to form bonds with mortals to at least have (what to them is) some brief momments of happines, it also comes with the knowledge that their mates will eventually die, but they accept it and enjoy all the more those brief decades they have togheter, for they are well aware what true loneliness is.... ...also i'm more of a fan of a "Cadance has a regular pony lifespan" theory, so there, whoever dies the second will eventually join it's mate on the afterlife |
| Jack-o-Lantern #1382613 2 months ago |
@Scumbag
They never used the term alicorn in the show ever. She is an ageless alicorn like Celestia & luna. Deal with it. |
| Anonymous #1382629 2 months ago |
@Scumbag_crowley
Not really. The princesses are referred to as unicorns in first ep. The actual word alicorn isn't used in the show, they are categorised as a subset of unicorns. |
| Scumbag_Crowley #1382636 2 months ago |
@Jack-o-Lantern
"They never used the term alicorn in the show ever, which is why she's an alicorn." Ladies and Gents, Jack-o's logic at its finest. Could you go on to explain how this proves the actual quote from the show wrong? |
| Anonymous #1382666 2 months ago |
perhaps she gave up her immortality? |
| Scumbag_Crowley #1382669 2 months ago |
@Anon629
Fair enough, but if we're still talking about Cadance's immortality, consider the following: Celestia hasn't aged a day since Granny Smith's flashback in the Zap Apple ep, set many years in the past. Cadance looked noteably younger in Twiilight's flashback when she was a filly, much fewer years in difference the Granny Smith's. With this comparison, it's proven that Celestia doesn't age (over thousand of years, apparently) and Cadance does (over the course of one lttle pony's foalhood). It's logical to assume that Cadance isn't immortal. |
| Jack-o-Lantern #1382671 2 months ago |
My point still stands that she is no different from Celestia cause only the fandom assumed that Celestia & Luna were gods then S2 finale came and canon disproved fanon. |
| Scumbag_Crowley #1382706 2 months ago |
@Jack
I've never assumed that. I've shown that Celly's immortal to the point of being ageless, but I've known she's not god-like ever since Nightmare Moon captured her or whatever in the very first FiM episode ever! All I'm saying is Celestia and Cadance are different, as the show has proved to us: Cadance does age; proven by canon. Celestia does not age; proven by canon. Maybe because Cadance is Celestia's niece, and the immortality gene doesn't pass down through her children, but nevertheless my point still stands; Cadance ain't immortal. She ages. She will die one day. |
| Jack-o-Lantern #1382713 2 months ago |
Maybe alicorns just age into adulthood then stop aging from there? |
| YetAnotherBrony #1382716 2 months ago |
Okay, we may not think Celestia is a goddess, but the ponies seem to see her as some sort of divine being, as shown in "Sisterhooves Social" when Rarity declares "With Celestia as my witness, I shall never be sisterless again!" |
| Scumbag_Crowley #1382725 2 months ago |
@Jack
If they did, bearing in mind Cadance is her niece, and therefore reproduction is possible, wouldn't we be seeing alicorns everywhere from thousands of years worth of breeding and no age-death? |
| Jack-o-Lantern #1382754 2 months ago |
@Scumbag
Because maybe they are somewhere else thats off camera just like with stallions in the show? maybe they don't reproduce that much? Maybe most alicorns live on thier home planet (or whatever your headcanon says they are from)? Or maybe most alicorns died in The Last Great Time War? Or maybe Hasbro wants more alicorns and they call all the shot and not Faust? |
| Jack-o-Lantern #1382757 2 months ago |
*all the shots |

who else was she supposed to marry Discord?
I think he's the only male immortal we know of and he's currently stoned |
| Everypony #1385999 2 months ago |
because...cadence needs sex to become immortal |
| Anonymous #1392429 2 months ago |
I think like 977, she obviouly grow like the normal ponies as we can see in the flashback. Plus if there was such thing as an immortal alicorn race, equestria would be filled with alicorn since their population could just go larger. |
| CottonTales #1392440 2 months ago |
@2429
what if alicorns aren't born through such means like even if alicorns mated and became pregnant they wouldn't have an alicorn child |
| Anonymous #1392454 2 months ago |
that wouldn't change anything to the fact that however they born, they don't die so their numbrer will keep going. |
| CottonTales #1392479 2 months ago |
how about when an alicorn is born another alicorn must forfeit their immortality |
| Anonymous #1392489 2 months ago |
This would pose another problem by thinking of how the first of them apprear. |
| CottonTales #1392507 2 months ago |
the first were just created by the primordial gods as the embodiments of certain things, sort of like the greek titans I guess |
| Anonymous #1392545 2 months ago |
I'm not very inform of the mythology but the greek titans wasn't immotal for what i know. They were vainquish by Zeus i think.
And alicorn aren't godlike for what i think Celestia, Luna and Cadence were all vainquish somewhere. |
| CottonTales #1392555 2 months ago |
The titans were sent to Tartarus I believe, they weren't killed |
| Anonymous #1392568 2 months ago |
But another question will be, does great power must always come with immotality? |
| CottonTales #1392589 2 months ago |
No great power does not come with immortality the vice versa is also true you don't have to be extremely powerful to be immortal but most people just think that long lived powerful things are immortal |
| Anonymous #1392619 2 months ago |
So alicorn don't have to be immortal to reflect the power we think they have.
And we also don't know Celestia and luna are immortal due to their alicorn nature or something that happend to them. |
| Anonymous #1392729 2 months ago |

Alicorn vs. Winged Unicorns.
My head canon: Celestia is Alicorn Luna is Alicorn Cadence is Winged Unicorn and will live no longer than Shining Armor But that is just the in my head canon, you are free to think what ever you want untill the show says otherwise. |
| Veya #1415358 1 month ago |
I actually developed a whole headcanon about Alicorns after the season finalle, for short:
There are twelve Alicorns, each representing one of of the twelve Olimpians of Greek mythology, out of those 12, only 3 are immortal, because they need to be(Celestia and Luna, representing the sun and the moon, Apollo and Artemis, and a 3rd, male Alicorn that represents Hades of the lot, he can't die because he is death), the other 9 reincarnate and die trough the generations, much in a Avatar style, Cadance for example, is the goddess of love, representing Aphrodite, she will live and die when her time comes, but her essence will separate from her soul and will reincarnate in another alicorn. Of course, it means we would have another 9 Alicorns to meet, one of which the censorship wouldn't allow into the show(hint: the Hades one), but hey, at least it makes sense to me. I realize "Hades is the god of death" is a misconception, Thanatos is the god of death, Hades is the god of the dead, of the underworld, but I said "based on greek myth", not "100% accurate to the greek myths". |
