The thing is, that Yamino quote is basically true. The whole scene was one big insult to Derpy for being an exaggerated "dumb" stereotype, and that was the entire joke. It was like watching people throw rocks at her for five minutes and then having them all look at me funny when I didn't laugh. |

True, but the scene was so cartoonish that only an idiot would find it offensive. Plus there have been far denser characters shown on TV that no one even cared about. And Hasbro didn't really fix the problem. Actually they kind of made it worse. Finally, a woman/man (I don't know Yamino's gender) who makes a comic that most Christians would probably find offensive has no right to claim to defending others rom discrimination. |

>True, but the scene was so cartoonish that only an idiot would find it offensive. That is complete nonsense. What does it really mean to call something a "joke"? Anything to be a joke if you want it to, and if you think doing something "jokingly" nullifies its effect on others, you can literally get away with anything. Nearly all stereotypes are "cartoonish" or "joking" or "non-serious" or some other variant. That doesn't mean that, for instance, a semi-literate "blackface" caricature isn't racist or problematic. >And Hasbro didn't really fix the problem. Actually they kind of made it worse. That's true. >Finally, a woman/man (I don't know Yamino's gender) who makes a comic that most Christians would probably find offensive has no right to claim to defending others rom discrimination. That's nonsense. Just because you find Yamino's webcomic offensive for some reason doesn't necessarily make it a hateful stereotype. But Derpy was turned into a hateful stereotype. |

"But Derpy was turned into a hateful stereotype."
By the people who were offended by her. See how that works now? |
| Anonymous #1429124 1 month ago |
aren't all of the main characters mentally handicapped joke characters? |
| Anonymous #1429237 1 month ago |
@302
Defending something that is sure to be offensive to a lot of Christians while condemning something that the VAST majority of disabled people did not find offensive. You're either a fucking moron or one of yamino's white knights. Either way you're doing everyone, disabled people and people with lazy eyes a huge disservice, and we wish you to stop. Just stop. You're not helping us. GO AWAY, just fucking hell GO AWAY. |

By the show itself. Notice how she has no character traits apart from stupidity, how she's blamed for things that aren't her fault and no one in the show has shown her anything but hatred? #1429237 You ask for sympathy, but show nothing but hatred yourself. You claim that others are "doing disabled people a disservice" and seek to verbally abuse them to protect the victims of their protection. The reason you aren't making any progress is that you have done nothing but fling hatred at people while not showing a single shred of thought to understanding their viewpoints or even treating them as people. If you're going to play the victim, you shouldn't use it as an excuse to victimize others. |
| Anonymous #1429462 1 month ago |
You aren't protecting anyone. You are ATTACKING disabled people. Do you not realize that?
You are keeping stereotypes alive by attributing them to Derpy, then attacking Derpy in the name of disabled people. STOP it. None of us want your help. |
| Anonymous #1429508 1 month ago |
#1429462
You're the one attacking people. I explained what I felt was wrong with her treatment, and you basically ignored it and insulted me. The show itself treated her like a walking disaster who has no value as a person. That, not her cross-eyes or personality, is what was wrong with it. |
| Anonymous #1429516 1 month ago |
Dude. It's a cartoon. A slapstick cartoon. Not a biography. Any character development beyond "my eyes are funny!" is a miracle for a background character. |
| Anonymous #1429551 1 month ago |
It's not the absence of development, it's the presence of purely negative development.
For contrast, her scene in Feeling Pinkie Keen had none of the problems. It was short, and her display of clumsiness was the sort of thing that an actual person might be guilty of. But then she decided to just blow up a building, apparently out of pure stupidity. And she recieved a large amount of hate from other characters, and nothing else. And her destructive tendencies defied logic, but were still her fault, apparently because she's just that dumb. |

"But then she decided to just blow up a building, apparently out of pure stupidity. And she recieved a large amount of hate from other characters, and nothing else"
Would you please watch the episode already. These silly ramblings are getting tiresome. |

Okay, I can tell this conversation is pretty much over. |

You didn't even respond to anything in that post. You just went "NUH-UH RETARD". Talking to you is like talking to a brick wall. |
| Anonymous #1429859 1 month ago |
It's because you keep spouting bullshit like: "And she recieved a large amount of hate from other characters, and nothing else"
You have clearly taken a stance in this and you will never change your opinion. |
| Anonymous #1429877 1 month ago |

I described several things which actually occured in the episode. You ignored all of my claims and insulted me. You didn't explain why you disagreed with my perspective, or why anything wasn't like what I described, or otherwise displayed any of your own knowledge of the episode's events. You just bashed my point of view with a hammer. If there's anyone who wasn't paying attention, it's you, because the knowledge of it you've shown yourself to have is "it has Derpy in it, fullstop". Now, I'm not saying they're objectively offensive, or that you have to be offended, or that you can't like them, or that they should have been changed. I'm just stating my own perspective, and you're declaring it wrong for no reason. |
| Anonymous #1429884 1 month ago |
Okay. Your claims are wrong. She didn't receive any hate. The only thing that happened was Rainbow Dash got slightly annoyed with her and, well. Acted like Rainbow Dash. That's all that happened. How you twisted that into "And she recieved a large amount of hate from other characters, and nothing else" I will never know. |
| Anonymous #1429901 1 month ago |
^
And Rainbow Dash's anger was the only character interaction she recieved. That's it. She does stupid things and people yell at her. Even for things for which she couldn't logically be at fault, she somehow still is. That's what I didn't like about it. It exaggerated her negative traits with nothing positive to balance it out. |
| Anonymous #1429916 1 month ago |
>People still debating this |
| Anonymous #1429991 1 month ago |
Yeah, okay, we've all made our positions clear here. One guy thought the episode was insulting, everyone else didn't, nobody wanted it to be changed or hated Derpy herself. Now can we just respect each other's points of view and drop it? |
