Well, if you say the mares are a fourth the size of a regular pony then the same applies to Big Mac, don't you think? Sure, he's bigger that they are but not that much.
And it would get in his way, would it always be stiff, which it isn't. Colts also get erections randomly when they are relaxed but as soon as they hear a loud noise it goes way in a kind oif a shock reaction. Same would probably apply from pain.
