The train had to move very slowly to not destroy the delicate cakes. |

Simple. It's in the script... |
| Clopitor_the_Hydrogenous #1373137 2 months ago |
^Which only resulted in allowing ample time for the delicate cakes to be destroyed. |

Because Hasbro wanted them to suddenly have a train to Canterlot. And it needed to have some screentime.
Normally the traveling time would be the same as when driving 2,3 stations on a subway. My headcanon is that the train does not directly drive to Canterlot, but has a few stations behind the mountains. |

And in case of the cake episode it drove on an even longer route because the main route is too steep and everything would fall over inside. |

The direct connection was closed at the time. The bridges or tunnels collapsed, and they had to take the road around the mountains? The Luddite steeds pulling trains went on strike and blocked the railway, because they had been being replaced by Steam engines since season two? The railroad company closed the connection temporarily due to budget cuts? It's You who decides! Three hurrays for Headcanon! |

One thing that bugs me out more is that some houses in the second to last screenshot are smaller than a train car. |

the train stops along all the smaller towns and villages on the way to Canterlot |
| RealityCheck #1374466 2 months ago |
Whoever asks this has obviously never been on public transit. EVER.
One town I lived in, a trip to the store that, in a car, would take TEN MINUTES, took almost two hours by bus--- because the tools who came up with the bus route had it run back and forth and up and over and at one point run several miles IN THE OTHER DIRECTION and took one bus transfer at the central depot to boot. |

But one question: did they SAY that it was taking place at Canterlot? I got the impression it was at some other town, and the train passed THROUGH Canterlot to pick up Pony Joe and the other contestants. |
| Kanrabat #1374553 2 months ago |
^
Nope. They clearly say the contest is at Canterlot. Pony joe and the otheres were at Ponyville. "Donut Joe, what are you doing in Ponyville?" "To take the final ingredients for my DONUTOPIA!!!" ^ ^ I dont own a car and I perfectly know what public transit is like. Still, they went by train for the Royal Wedding and it took only a.... Hmm.... Well, maybe it DOES take a day to reach Canterlot by train because the route is fucked up. The only short travels were by flying chariot or by cart. |
