I know this is from Past Sins, but this reminds me more of the scene in the Mario fic Somewhere Over the Rainbow where Vivian plays the Shadow Queen in a school production of TTYD and goes berserk... I haven't read Past Sins, but does Nyx go crazy with power like Vi did? |

Though yeah I found this scene to be rather cute. Still don't get why people have so much hate over one small story. Sure Nyx isn't the most characterized pony out there, but she does have enough to keep her out of complete mary sue bland character range. Yeah she got a lot of power but...well Nightmare Moon. Nightmare needed to be beaten with the Elements of Harmony the first time around so I'd expect her to be pretty dang strong. Focusing on Nyx again, I thought she had a pretty well done character arc throughout the story. I'm sure there's a reason people hate the story so much, but I'm just not seeing it. |

In my experience, the essence of a Sue is not in the number of eye/hair colors, the super powers or if it is a dragon/pony/manticore hybrid. No, a Sue should be judged by how does it affect the world and those around her.
Does everyone she meets take a like to her immediately? Do those who not like her get treated as wrong/jerks? Are her actions always deemed as correct/positive? Does she take responsibility and/or get punished for her misdeeds? You know, stuff like that... |
