I don't know… Nightmare Moon kept it night for quite a while in episode 02. So either A. she has the power to stop the rotation of the planet around the sun or B. She or Celestia kept the sun from rising |

^ It will be more like stop the rotation of the panet aroud itself but it's plausible that the princess and the unicornia control the planet rotation.
The problem would be how the world work before evolution of pony and unicorn. Maybe they have a natural rotation before Unicornia take over it to get food from earth ponies. But by doing this, they broke the natural system beyond repair and now celestia and luna just fix their mistake. |
