Wait, so because, it's in waking distance it can't be located north of Ponyvile?
HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENSE? |
| Anonymous #1366776 2 months ago |
10/10, Applejack is best troll pony. |
| Anonymous #1366778 2 months ago |
It is north of Ponyville, but that doesn't make it "northern". |
| Anonymous #1366784 2 months ago |
@775: she already explained this. She's racist, she doesn't have to make sense. |
| Saint_Braeburn #1366786 2 months ago |
Also, Applejack's strength comes from her upbringing as a farmer, not her race. |
| Saint_Braeburn #1366793 2 months ago |
@Anom784
Reread the comic. Twiight is the one who claims that Canterot can't be north of Ponyvile because it's in walking distance. @Anon778 Geographically, it does |
| Anonymous #1366795 2 months ago |
Even non-farming earth ponies have sturdier bodies than unicorns and pegasi. This, along with their connection to the land, is what they got instead of flight or magic. |
| Anonymous #1366802 2 months ago |
@Saint
It makes it "north of Ponyville", not "northern". Georgia is a Southern state even though it's north of Florida. |
| Saint_Braeburn #1366816 2 months ago |

Cheerilee and all those ponies pulling the train in Over a Barrel. |
| Clopitor_the_Hydrogenous #1366853 2 months ago |
^That doesn't provide any information. Unless it is explicitly stated that the other races are incapable of pulling the train, it is a moot point. |
| Anonymous #1366855 2 months ago |
He just asked for examples. |
| ClownDicks #1366858 2 months ago |
Look, it's canon. Just never been demonstrated...
Fucking mud ponies. |
| Clopitor_the_Hydrogenous #1366859 2 months ago |
You need to establish an example of strength dominance over the other races, not simply a mere feat of strength. |

@Saint_Braeburn
Cheerilee ripped a wall apart, Big Mac tore a two story house out of it's foundations and dragged it down a road, 4 Earth ponies capable of hauling a full sized train at high speeds, Pinkie dragging around a cannon bigger than a pony like it was a toy. If that's not feats of strength, I don't know what is. @Clopitor_the_Hydrogenous He demanded examples. He got examples. Your interpretation of events is no less wrong or right than anyone else's. Stop being rude. |
| Clopitor_the_Hydrogenous #1366918 2 months ago |
@Shader
I'm not denying that earth ponies are strong, I'm simply stating that they have never been shown to be stronger than any other race. You could cite the 'Fall Weather Friends' but that doesn't provide a large enough sample base for a true comparison between the races. Unless you can provide evidence, everything is just headcanon. |
| Shader #1366954 2 months ago |
@Clopitor_the_Hydrogenous
>everything is just headcanon. The evidence is the examples of massive strength. Not to mention, nearly everything about FIM IS headcanon. The history, politics, the planet, other cultures, what Celestia/Luna truely are, what Discord is, even what Derpy/Ditzy/Bright Eyes full name is. Even down to what unicorn magic is actually capable off, or how well pegasi can fly or how strong earth ponies are. Don't come in here, and start shit because someone else interprets events differently. I'm sick to death of people doing that. Neither side is wrong, nor right. Like I said, examples have been given. They may not be enough for YOU, but they're enough for other people. Don't be rude. |
| Jack-o-Lantern #1366999 2 months ago |
It just makes sense that earth ponies are naturally stronger when you think about it.
Pegasi use their wings more than their legs. Unicorns use magic for everything when they could also easily use thier hooves. Earth ponies have to make the best of what they got so with no wings or magic they will be using their legs a lot more. Their legs are getting a lot more of a workout daily than pegasi or unicorns so it just makes sense that earth ponies are naturally stronger and it gives them something to make each 3 races have pros & cons that makes them equal. |
| BimbrowniaDash #1367003 2 months ago |
@Clopitor_the_Hydrogenous
The show quite consistently implies that all types of ponies are equal. Earth ponies are neither magical not capable of flight. What is really left for them to fill that gap? This way or another, what is the point of this competition, if it is clear that RD will be better at anything that requires not touching the ground for some time? They'd need to find a field they share to actually compete. |
| Clopitor_the_Hydrogenous #1367066 2 months ago |
@Jack
See that is what I want. You can argue that earth ponies are stronger due to the fact that they have to use far less efficient means to accomplish their goals. My point is that Earth ponies are not stronger because they are Earth ponies, they are stronger because they aren't Pegasi or Unicorns. I just wanted to point out that any other race has the potential to be just as strong as Earth ponies, and that strength is not an exclusive trait to Earth ponies. |

Clopitor_the_Hydrogenous@1367066 said: According to Lauren Faust, the show's developer, "While not magical like the other pony types, Earth Ponies do have a connection to the land that other types do not. In Equestria, growing food and tending animals (Fluttershy's talent with animals is unusual for a pegasus, I always imagined she feels more at home on the ground than in the sky) is just as necessary, as managing weather and magic. Perhaps more important, don't you think? They are ponies, not people, so perhaps appreciating each other as equals is not so difficult for them." |
| Clopitor_the_Hydrogenous #1367165 2 months ago |
^I totally agree with that Earth ponies are better farmers for certain. I just don't agree with Earth ponies being inherently stronger by nature. I see Earth ponies in general are stronger than the other races, but I attribute that to their need to do many tasks in a far more physical manner, and often, less efficient manner. I see their strength as a result of them being Earth ponies, not because they are. |
| Crayv #1367211 2 months ago |
I get what the comic is trying to say, I don't really agree with it. Imagine if Twilight competed against them. Imagine if Rainbow Dash was competing against Twilight in a race and Twilight simply teleported to the finish. Twilight was simply using her natural born abilities. Rainbow Dash is the one who wanted to compete against a race (earth pony) that is naturally strong and athletic in a contest of strength and athletics. Rainbow Dash using something her opponent doesn't have is really no different than Twilight doing the same.
Rainbow Dash using her wings to fly in a tug of war match is like a tractor competing against a helicopter in tug of war. It doesn't matter if the tractor can drag far more weight than the helicopter can even lift. All the helicopter has to do is be able to lift the tractor off the ground. |

Eyup. It's very usual to see earth ponies with flowers vegetables as theis cutie mark. In ep 11 "Heart's Warming Eve" you can see Applejack (as Smart Cookie) making a plant germinate and grow two leaves faster than a flicker. It's like plants grow a lot faster when earth ponies are near. |
| NumberThree #1368756 2 months ago |
So you only have to plant a dirt pony between every two row of plants and you've got a superfast farm?
MUST TRYYYY..... Other: Lauren Faust said that pegasi and earth ponies has got passive magic. Wonder what pegasi got. |
| CronoM #1368765 2 months ago |
So are we truly assuming Earth Ponies are stronger, or have more endurance. Its pretty much a given that Unicorns are physically weaker then either, but can we count on Earth Ponies being stronger the Pegasi. Last I checked, they were a race of warriors.
The Word of God only states that Earth Ponies are the only ponies capable of growing food from the Earth. |
| NumberThree #1368819 2 months ago |
What is this "DOG" you're talking about? /jk |

Canterlot used to be walking distance until they needed to ride a train that goes through mountain tunnels to get there. |

we are all forgetting that Dash beat Applejack in an arm wrestling contest in Fall Weather Friends Episode |
| Ferrotter #1370639 2 months ago |
@BimbrowniaDash: The show consistently implies it, Faust explicitly said it. All three types of ponies are equally magical, it just usually manifests in different ways. |
| Anonymous #1370794 2 months ago |
Pony strength is ridiculously inconsistent, whether or not Earth Ponies are involved. Rainbow Dash alone has quite variable strength, seeing as she beats Applejack in a hoof wrestle in "Fall Weather Friends,"as well as pull off the Sonic Rainboom and Rainbomb, or carry that statue at the Grand Galloping Gala. Then she fails to support the wooden beam Derpy drops on her, is completely unable to escape from a boulder of similar size to Tom, the rock that both Rarity and Twilight can carry around without a problem. Then there's Mysterious Mare Do Well, which established that Applejack actually was stronger than Rainbow Dash with the runaway cart. So it's nigh impossible to determine Dash's actual strength level, as she's simultaneously stronger and weaker than Applejack.
In addition, Pegasi seem to be able prevent gravity from affecting objects they carry while in flight, which is mostly seen with Fluttershy's cart. That makes Pegasi strength in general pretty hard to find. Earth Ponies, however, seem to have several feats of strength, such as the aforementioned Cheerilee wall smash and Big Mac towing a house. We've never seen any other pony type pull a train like we have Earth Ponies, so it does indeed seem to be weighted in their favor, but again, it seems to vary. Usually with another type of pony overpowering an Earth Pony, though I can't recall many examples of an Earth Pony being notably weak on their own. I don't remember where I was going with this. Pony strength is weird. |

AJ is naturally stronger than Dash because she's an earth pony? Uh. No. Dash is stunned any pony is stronger than her in mare-do-well, so clearly it's not that earth ponies are naturally stronger. |
| Anonymous #1387694 2 months ago |
She's shocked another pony is stronger than her because she overestimates herself. |
| Anonymous #1446584 1 month ago |
Don't forget Winter Wrap Up, when she was furious at Twilight for using unicorn magic on her farm, even though her farm relies upon earth pony magic to run, and pegasi were openly using their magic to help wrap up winter. She's clearly a racist. |
