I could have sworn that Starswirl the Bearded was around before during the classical era, not before it. I could have heard wrong though.
Then again, if Star Swirl was around during the Classical Era, (not the one mentioned here, just the name) then its possible that Equestria wasn't founded until after Starswirl -for lack of a better word- revolutionized Unicorn magic |

If you think about it, maby the castle of the royal pony sisters was Discords in the first place, its surrounded by a forest filled with strange and dangerous creatures, it's very much different to the rest of Equestria in that it runs its own weather and the animals take care of themselves (Episode 2 Season 1)
