Anyway. It makes sense Twilight copied this from Cadence. It seems like she can copies other pony spells. It's one of Cadence's love spells, only a lot weaker and sort of 'corrupted' (possibly because Cadence is too powerful to copy correctly, or because Twilight was a babby at the time). Actually if Twilight CAN learn any other unicorn's special abilities, the importance of her making a lot of friends kind of takes on a more immediate and practical purpose. |

^ Anon 509 - You're on the right path there, I think. Twilight's special talent IS magic, after all, and it's been shown she can copy other unicorns' spells (Rarity's gem-finding spell, Shining Armor's force-bubble spell). It's possible the Want-It-Need-It spell was a copy of one of Cadence's love spells.
Unfortunately, since Twilight is so utterly clueless when it comes to ponies' feelings, she probably failed to understand the workings of the spell and came up with a "corrupt" copy like you said. And since it seems likely she wasn't very popular among her classmates, she probably used the spell for all sorts of mischief to get back at them. This is one of the reasons WHY Celestia insisted on Twilight going out and making friends--she was heading down the path of evil sorcery. |
