Sentient? Not really any more then other animals. It seems to be generally accepted now that they're programmed with vocabularies and even then aren't capable of learning behaviors that could be taught to a dog. On a sidenote, did you know that there are some breeds of dogs such as the Border Collie are capable of learning and understanding the meanings of human words and actually have quite a large vocabulary of words they know? Some know more then a thousand actually. So Fluffy Ponies are quite a bit less intelligent then a dog and only their capability and tendency to produce the complex sounds necessary to vocalize what few words they usually instinctively know creates the illusion of higher intelligence. So yeah, real life animals have more impressive linguistic comprehension, If a Fluffy Pony is sentient then a dog is doubly so. |

No, it gives me the right to not consider it all too valuable a life. And the fact you've never seen anyone teach such a Fluffy Pony is quite important here, they are programmed to know English. This isn't any sign of intelligence on their part, it's a sign of intelligence for whoever created them. Over all I find their torture and death less objectionable then similar action against a dog because as it is a dog is a far superior life form more worthy of our empathy and likely more capable of granting us its own. Because lets face it, dogs are quite good at understanding people, especially when compared to these things and are overall more complex creatures. |

To the anon going on about the fluffies being no more sentient then other animels, do you even know what sentience is, thay can tell when someone is angry at them, can remember a "sorry stick", have fellings, that is sentience "to feel, perceive or be conscious" if you can't ell that that is what being sentient is then your no more sentient then what you clam a fluffy is. |

Because these people are fools who think this makes them look like "tough badasses", when instead it makes them appear as sociopaths who can't even say "remorse". At least, that's what I hope. If the people who post things like that are being truthful? I honestly hope they take a crowbar to the side of the head. Animal/Child abuse is one of the worst things a person can do, and I will not tolerate such heinous acts. |

No, not even in the slightest. Not even chimps are capable of the linguistic abilities even the dumbest fluffies show in fics. You really don't appreciate how much cognitive ability is necessary even to have the most rudimentary language. Vocabulary cannot be programmed, and the fact that they can construct sentences, even broken ones, something chimps like Nim Chimpsky couldn't do after years of careful training. That's what has always bothered me about the fluffy pony meme most of all actually. And it's because most people don't realize just how much of a cognitive feat language is. For example, just to be able to differentiate between past, present or future tense, like even the dumbest fluffies can, requires a level of forth dimensional thinking that, as far as we can tell, only humans are capable of. Yeah, they're dumb as a post. So is a human infant. You don't see people gleefully talking about taking an a hammer to a maternity ward and murdering children. Now, I'm usually just content to make snide remarks about the scat and gore fetish implied by most of these. But if we're going to justify torture based on intelligence, let's at least understand what constitutes intelligence. Now, if you want to get all syrys bzns about this, i frankly don't care how retarded fluffy ponies are. Or anything else for that matter. Hurting things because they're dumb is kind of infantile, and there really is no way around it. Even if fluffs were just vermin, inflicting needless cruelty on them is senseless and degrading to the abuser. |

And really, even the stupidest of fluffies from fluffy fics are about as smart as your average four year old. More often than not, it's their curiosity and frailty that kills them.
