No no no, you've got it all wrong! We aren't on the moon, and we aren't banished either! We simply moved to another dimension way back when and forgot why and when exactly because we're idiots!
Don't worry though, we'll find a way back. In fact, we already did approx. 50-100 years ago. We've just been observing and studying instead of either A, coming back as friendly interdimensional aliens, or B, going full-Combine on your planet. How do I know this? Friends on the inside. Where exactly did you think the show came from? Writers, perhaps even artists? Bah! All a cover-up! Don't worry, there's only a 50% chance that we'll send an elite force in to invade your planet when we decide to get off our asses and do something, and only a 99% chance that human scientists have reverse-engineered various mystical artifacts and spells for use by human super-soldiers/weapons.
