A straightforward analysis of one year of fan activity measured by number of new uploads per month on Ponibooru, compared to episode air dates and significant news. This started with just pinpointing a few numbers to prove that the brony fandom is not on a decline. I decided to roll with it as an excuse to practice designing graphs and distract myself from various life drama. I'm sure it will interest somepony. By the way, what happened in March? Did all of the bronies go on Spring break? |

huh... wow... well done |

Notice how that drop in March happened just after the whole Derpy debacle. I think the amount of rage in the community drove away a bunch of people for a little while. |

I always like to see statistics. Interesting that there was a significant dip from February to March. |
| JP #1361558 2 months ago |
Was March really that slow? The First Pony Drought was more active than March. Strange. |
| Rainbowtron #1361572 2 months ago |
If Ponibooru were to display precise dates, I'd have made a graph begining with the site's launch and it would have been a line chart of hourly posts to show how much buzz there is following new episodes. |

It's scary to see how much damage that "Derpygate" incident really did. The whole thing was a huge mess, and that's an understatement.
I doubt something as big will ever happen again, and we'll make sure of that |

It's like the fandom was hit with a nuclear bomb in March and it's taken us until now to fully regenerate. |

Thank you. |

Though @Eco's shown up since and he's a cool guy and he's elected a few extra mods we'd be still unprepared for another troll flood like the March one. The site does not react to bad content quickly enough. I'd probably be forced to take another spring break if it happened again.
This is just my personal feeling but the reopening of the /mlp/ board may have fed the troll inflow too. Though I'm really happy with how the site is going right now. Our idiot Anon/cool Anon scale is tipping towards the positive again. Kudos to the regulars who stayed and the ones we gained too. What did you use for statistics, @Rt? |

@Vree: I jumped around the site looking for the most recent posts marked 1 month ago, 2 months ago, 3 months ago, 4 months ago, 5 months ago, 6 months ago, 7 months ago, 8 months ago, 9 months ago, 10 months ago, 11 months ago, and 1 year ago, and subtracted the post numbers. |
| Rainbowtron #1362043 2 months ago |
BTW, that was all done early in the morning on May 1, so there are a few hours of inaccuracy, but it's a small enough to still create an accurate picture of growth and decrease. |

@Glaive:
I think the removal of Derpy from the show disgusted a bunch of fans and drove them off for a while. The "rage" was a reaction of other disgusted fans who weren't driven off. |
| BattleGT #1362478 2 months ago |
The reactions to Derpy's removal was what put me away from ponies for a week. I was respected their decision to do it but I wasn't a fan of the voice of reason behind it.
I don't think the fandom will go through something like that ever again. |

I might make another graph charting monthly tag popularity, but I'd probably be dissatisfied with the large margin of error that my current method would create when measuring a larger variety of data ranges, so I'm waiting to see if @Eco takes my suggestion to display precise times and dates. With that, it would be easy for me to measure all kinds of trends on the site. |

I want to address the talks about Derpygate in relation to these statistics. While it's plausible that it's the sole contributor to the decline in March, I want to remind everypony that there are far more variables that can't be measured with this little data. I think it's far more likely that it's a combination of several contributing factors such as Derpygate, overwhelming trolls, Spring Break, and general dissatisfaction with some of the new episodes. |
| Latias4Ever #1363369 2 months ago |
The Derpy drama caused a decline on the interest in the show. That should show you how much ass you're sucking, New Bronies. |

@369
Wrong conclusion. |

The Derpy Drama really rustled too much jimmies. We were all frustrated about everything :( |
