Still, earth ponies are at a comparative disadvantage to the other races in many ways due to their lack of secondary methods of object manipulation (telekinesis, prehensile wings) so while they may not be treated any differently, they would find themselves in the more menial roles, due to the other races means of object manipulation being more valuable elsewhere.

OP is correct. Lauren did say that. Yet... it just makes perfect sense from an economic standpoint.

But like I said on the original upload, things are more equal BECAUSE Celestia is in power. QED.

@Ozark

Nope, because there are rich Earth ponies and poor Unicorns. So still, it's not correct on a economic.

Also, since Earth ponies are the ones that grow food I don't think they can be considered lesser. Even before Equestria all three races were shown to be equal in power and importance.

Celestia may treat them equally (well, she DOES), but economics is not the same as public relations, or whatever it is being semi-argued about.

You guys talk about growing crops like it's not an important role.

But farmers (peasants) have historically been an underclass, even though their contributions have been the most necessary.

then here's an economic argument

1) in work dealing with the natural world beneath the clouds, earth ponies have an intrinsic aptitude that privileges them beyond any pegasus or unicorn whose special talent isn't directly relevant. working as a stonemason, an earth pony without a stonemasonry-related cutie mark will beat a unicorn without a stonemasonry-related cutie mark nine times out of ten.

2) "friendship is magic." unicorn magic is intrinsically strengthened by openness and social bonds - one need only notice how far twilight's magic progressed after the pilot got her into a proper social group. unicorns from an insular subculture will be less economically fit than those with more inclusive tastes.

^And this is based upon what? I believe that Lauren said that Earth ponies have an advantage in flora related activities, not 'in work dealing with the natural world beneath the clouds.'

Flora were an example. IIRC, the actual quote was that they have a "magical connection to the land".

I take it donkeys and zebras are either earth subraces or entirely different species.

A peasant is someone indentured to a landowner for the right to work that land. Landowners have always been traditionally very powerful, as for a long time, land was the only real sign of wealth.

The Apple family clearly shows that they own their own land, therefore we can assume that farmland on the whole is owned by the earth ponies that work it, which would make them very powerful socially.

^ Donkeys and Zebras are different species. They can mate with ponies, but their offspring will almost always be infertile due to differing chromosome counts. Earth Ponies, Pegasi, and Unicorns can all mate with each other and have fertile offspring (which was confirmed in Baby Cakes).

I like to think that earth ponies take an extra feat at character creation.

In addition to being farmers earth ponies can be powerful economic forces, look at Filthy Rich, Hoity Toity and Photo Finish. The reason they aren't represented by a noble class is because they either didn't have one or disposed of the one they did have long before the other ponies. Earth ponies have a strong republican tradition (republican referring to the republic form of government, not the american political party) that they probably still practice even though they chose to be ruled by Celestia and Luna. I'd guess pony parliament is dominated by earth ponies.

Unicorns have a strong tradition of royalty, craftsponyship and scholarship. Back during the days when the pony races were separated into three different nations the noble families of the unicorns probably ruled over a lower class of unicorn craftsponies, and were advised by magicians. The unicorns as a whole wouldn't need to worry about food, because they would trade finely crafted goods that only they could make to earth ponies for food, and they also controlled the sun and moon. The earth ponies weren't serfs, though, they were more like a separate republic that the monarchy of the unicorns would trade with. Currently unicorns in Equestria dominate jobs that require fine craftsponyship and magic. A useless class of aristocrats serves a ceremonial role in Canterlot.

The pegasi were a military state and currently pegasi are likely to be found in some kind of civil service position. Weather management is popular for obvious reasons, but the armed forces of Equestria is another popular choice because of the proud martial tradition of the pegasi.

The three races have historical positions that they fill based on tradition and more pragmatic reasons (who but a pegasus can manage the weather? who but a unicorn can cast spells?), but there isn't an actual caste system in place in Equestria.

But farmers and other menial labor have always been an underclass to the warrior classes, merchant classes, artisan classes, pretty much everyone who wasn't a farmer. Most feudal systems worked that way. And even in non-feudal systems, people who produce goods and services are at the bottom of the ladder while those with power (money, nobility, influence) are above them.

I guess it's good for earth ponies that they aren't limited to farming and we've seen members of that race who are wealthy and influential.

Also, the idea that unicorns are upperclass because they are unicorns is undone by Rarity. Rarity, despite her pretensions, is of seemingly low birth. The fact that she has been very successful in entering Canterlot high society shows that what class system is in place in Equestria is pretty fluid.

Faust also said she didnt want trains in the show, and that only 2 alicorns exist. What she says, doesnt really hold water compared to what actually happens in show.
Im sure she has issues with Hearths warming eve too, and even if you say all of the race issues are in the past, we just saw Twilight bemoaning that she was just a plain old unicorn, the first time racial envy has been appeared
Also as Ive mentioned, think back to every butler or servant that we've seen and think of what race they were
