From a modder's perspective, New Vegas is like one huge addon pack. If you dive inside the GECK, you'll also find a lot of references and data that is left over from Fallout 3 but is unused in Vegas.
This also means that a fraction of the space the game takes on your HDD is bloat, and completely unnecessary. That said, because the overall structure of the game is the same, it is much easier to convert F3 mods over to NV than to a completely different game.. |

^That right there is primarily my favourite reason for liking NV. Especially since the main F3 storyline was so shoddy at the end, so the expansions and add-ons definitely were a necessity. |
