In S3, we'll be lucky to get more than passing references to either of these characters (they each had 1 in S2), so pairing them up (as partners at least) would also have the functional benefit of consolidating the episodes they'll appear in. I imagine this would have appeal to the editor staff who vet ideas pitched by writers.
I also endorse this pairing, for both practical and entertainment purposes. |

The original artist also had Trixie be Blueblood's personal royal guardpony, which would mean we'd finally get to see what their armor would look like.
And yes, I imagine it would be different from the armor for males. |
