That's the thing that bothered me about this episode. Pinkie has enough trouble trying to prove her responsibility to the Cakes as it is, and the others know this. That's the whole reason she asked for their help in the first place.
So instead of respecting that, they eat the cake that their friend's been entrusted to protect, stand by while others are accused for their actions, refuse to admit their guilt until found out, and after a quick apology (and excuse), everything's okay?? I know the title is "Friendship is Magic," but it took one heck of a parlor trick to pull off that karma Houdini. |

Yeah that was one of my main beefs with the entire ep to be honest. Almost the entire main cast acts like giant selfish pricks for no discernible reason. I know it's a curse of multiple writers that sometimes characterization fluctuates, but still this just seemed glaring out of character for pretty much everyone involved. I mean Dash I could maybe kinda see, and Pinkie doesn't exactly have great impulse control either, but Fluttershy and Rarity just up and deciding to randomly chump off bits of a cake that isn't theirs?
Yeah not so much. Then as you said there's just the complete lack of any real consequences. The message seeming to be "It's okay to act like a giant dick to your friends, they're required to forgive." It's not like this was some misunderstanding or conflict of interest either, this was like straight up malicious. If someone just ruined something someone had worked hard on or was entrusted to protect for no good reason in reality that could easily END a friendship. |
