Dude, she's an alicorn. It's not a secret. At the very least, every library in Equestria probably has a chart of the royal family bloodlines, so you could ask your sister to look it up if you are too busy....

That's a good question. How many husbands has Cadance outlived already?

Why don't you take a seat right here, Cadence?

I'll stick with my headcanon of Cadance being mortal. If anything she'll outlive an average pony by a decade at most.

The infantilization of men-- all part of Celestia's matriarchal agenda!

I was wondering that myself. Does Cadence share the near-immortal lifespan of Celestia & Luna? Actually, we know she's not very old since she was noticeably younger when Twi was a filly. BUT, how long will she live? Is Shining Armor just the first of dozens of husbands in a multi-century lifespan? Will having to watch her friends age and die over and over again drive her to become detached from reality like our other two princesses? Or is Cadence just as mortal as anypony else?

My headcanon is that Cadence is an alicorn due to a rare genetic mutation rather than quasi-godhood, and everypony called her a princess because of how she looks, so Celestia decided to just go with it. This also explains Cadence's relative lack of magical power.

My headcanon is that Cadence is a mortal winged unicorn, not an immortal, godlike alicorn.

But yeah, I was wondering what OP seems to be wondering.

Maybe it's like a boy/girl association, only in inverse. Like how we associate "boys" with young males and "girls" with females in a more loose definition.

Cadence was a filly when Twight was a foal. She's not that old.

@OzarkBrony

Cadence has power, grea los of power.

After all,Shining Armor would have never been able to defeat the queen withou her help.

But yeah,Celestia and Luna still seem to be in a different category.

Yeah, thanks to the flash back when Twilight was a Filly I'm speculating that she's around Shining Armor's age at most.

I'm guessing Celestia and Luna will be the only ones that have the super long life spans. To make them seems special. I wonder if they'll ever go into detail on how it came to be. ( Probably not, but still curious )

She is the same age as Shining Armor, and since there aren't a dozen alicorn princesses lying about, i.e., Cadence's mother and grandmother and so on, she is not immortal.

The matriarchal implications that the sub-royal family only has unicorn males and alicorn females with far above normal power is odd, but so far that's what it implies.

relative lack of power? I totally agree with the mortal lifepspan thing, but she effectively has tons of power, just no tangible form to focus it into.

In the real world, we say "man and wife," with the woman being the only one whose status changes (the man was a man before the wedding, after all.)

In Equestria, where males are the oppressed ones, the husband gets reduced to a "colt," while the wife remains a "mare."

It is a subtle joke about Equestria's female-dominated society.

Yes, I am pulling this out of my ass.

Well, could also be that ponies who used the Elements of Harmony get sort of "frozen" in time.

Or the old unicorns put some serious magic mojo into the two sisters so they could raise the sun and the moon for them.

Or, for the twisted- it's not a gift, it's a curse by Discord. "Smile, because you get to watch everypony you'll ever love die before you. Better not get too attached my Dear! After all, in the end you'll be all alone- and when the last Unicorn, Pegasus and Earth Pony has left for the Great Beyond I'll be free again; nopony to use the annoying elements to hold me back. I'll be free again, and you'll be waiting for me. Oh, the things I'll do to you and your little sister..! See you at the end, Celestia!"

If (de)Cadence is like an elf, and now married to a mortal, that makes her mortal.

Pretty sure Cadance is mortal, and age appropriate to Shining.

I mean, we see Cadance when she babysat Twilight, and she was notably younger and smaller then... and without the little purple shade on the tip of her wings.
