I think watching this kind of allowed me to figure out one part of Chrys' appeal. She's actually the underdog for a large majority of this episode, and she is constantly unsure of herself. As soon as the slightest bump in the road for her plans appears, she got this really worried look. Like the power battle seemed like "Omigawdomigawd gonnalosegonnalosegonnalose pleasedon'tletmelose mychildrendependon-I'VE GOT IT I CAN WIN THIS I CAN- ...I've won!"
It's like she thought her plan was so crazy even she didn't think it would work, especially when Celestia is like "ho hum, this will be so simple, I move fucking stars bitch, what you got to challenge me with?" So at that moment, when she drew on Shining Armor's power and began pushing back, I think everyone was surprised. Viewers. Ponies. Changelings. Celestia. Even Chrysalis herself! |
