Blueblood was hilarious, him and Rarity were easily the highest point of the final episode and it is also amazing how one character can send autistical bronies into blind rage so easily.
Chrysalis was another dumb villain from this show that gets beaten in completely antic-climatic way, except without any of the charisma and hilarity of Discord. I like Blueblood better and would rather have him come back than Trixie or Gilda. |

It's never spoken on-screen though. 560 Chrysalis was hardly a dumb villain, she had absolutely every base covered and really only lost because her dumb minions decided to just leave the Mane 6 unattended, letting Twilight free Cadence and yada yada you know the rest. But, yeah. Power of Love is a cop-out. At the very least I would have liked to see some tension between Cadence and Shining Armor over the whole impostor thing. True love is born from adversity, not that phony shit they have going on. |

True, it usually falls on the man, but if the genders were swapped, it would have been exactly the same, but nobody would have seen an issue with Rarity being a self-centered prick because Rarity is main 6. The only thing Rarity has on her side is the fact that her character IS more developed. Imagine if she was a once-off character, and the only episode she appeared was the one with Fancypants and all that. She ditched her friends to mingle with popular people, she disregarded Twilight's birthday gift for the sake of her own status, and were it not for her friends FORCING themselves into HER social circle, she potentially wouldn't have even learned a lesson. Take that ONE episode, and put beside Blueblood's ONE episode. If he was a more regular character, his personality would be more fleshed out, just like Rarity's. But when both are limited, they're the same type of asshole. There's really no justification for the OBNOXIOUS amount of hate Blueblood garners for NO reason. :/ |

But in that episode, she did NONE of those things. ALL she was was selfish, haughty, and melodramatic. She was INCREDIBLY one dimensional in that episode. Just like Blueblood was in his ONE episode. She has the benefit of having two seasons worth of character development. A benefit he doesn't have. But if you look at them both, when they only have their most selfish moments to represent them, they're exactly the same. And if you mirrored Rarity's development on Blueblood, they'd turn out to be the same kind of person, because they're core personalities are the same. That was why he was the way he was. He was supposed to be a foil for Rarity. And he was. It was comedic, not antagonistic. He catches a ludicrous amount of flak for basically no reason. |

She did not want her new friends to find out that she was a bumpkin, and she bailed on one of her closest friends' birthday because she wanted to mingle with the Canterlot elite. The only reason she had to be confronted by the (selfish) choice she made is because her friends cared enough about her that they traveled to Canterlot just so she could be included at her party.
Rarity is not a shallow character by any means, but she's got flaws that occasionally get the better of her. Blueblood's flaws really aren't any worse than anything we've seen Rarity do, but the difference is that he only had a few scenes in one episode, while Rarity has had the whole series to show us that she's more than just a selfish primadonna. |

Blueblood: Stuck up brat who was raised belieiving his appearance was more important than his manners. He's a rude douche, but not an antagonist. Trixie: She was mean, arrogant, and tried to humiliate anyone who talked back at her. She was definitely an antagonist, but her scheme was to make everyone like her by showing off. She's a petty bitch, but not someone you'd call the cops on. Gilda: She stole things just because she could get away with it, and she bullied Fluttershy for no reason other than to stroke her own ego. She picked on Pinkie Pie and tried to forcibly break off her friendship with Rainbow Dash. She may not be a villain, but she was a worse antagonist than Trixie in terms of actual maliciousness. I don't think she deserves a shot at redemption, but it wouldn't be out of the question. Discord, Nightmare Moon (running with theory that she was an entity that was controlling Luna after she got jealous of Celestia), Chrysalis: OK, these three were straight up EVIL. All three wanted to ruin equestria for their own selfish gain-- Discord wanted enterainment, Nightmare Moon wanted to be worshipped, and Chrysalis wanted more power. None of them were "misunderstood." Their goals were all laid out perfectly for the viewer, and all of them had evil ends in mind for Equestria. They're not sad litte woobies who just need a pat on the head. Nightmare Moon got exorcized from Luna, Discord got turned into stone, and Chrysalis got blast off Team Rocket-style. These were evil super villains, and wouldn't you know it, most villains have to be defeated since they can't be reasoned or bargained with. |

I thought blueblood was a pretty cool guy, if a bit of a selfish prick.
I thought chrysalis was a pretty evil (if slightly hammy villian) with a really awesome voice. Generally, fanfic of the two can be pretty consistent; blueblood is still a selfish fic and chrysalis (of the fics I've read) is still an evil bitch. That said I wouldn't mind reading fics where both characters are expanded upon. Though I still kinda prefer chrysalis, even if she was in a fic where she wasn't evil (or redeemed) to still be a bit of a bitch, just a little bitch. Ultimately I see the good versions of both characters to be jerks with hearts of gold. Chrys leaning more towards an anti-hero jerk/combat pragmatist and blueblood being a gentleman prick who can be honor bound (he might seriously hate your guts but he owes you and will help you out) |
