To be fair, she expressed shock and surprise at beating Celestia too.

To quote someone from youtube:
"It's her food.
You would be laughing too if someone threatened to beat you with a sandwich."

Well of ccourse it shouldn' beat her, she eats the damn stuff. Personally, I think the problem was that there was so much, she coildn't absorb it all, and the backlash of love overload was what sent the Changlings flying.

She wasn't beaten by love, but by a shield spell powered by love.

No, what happened was that Love brought the shield back up.

What if Chrysalis, like us, assumed that ponies could channel only friendship into high-powered magic, and that love-based magic was only usable by changelings and Black Mage?

(Oh, great! RedshirtZombie's trees are suffering epilepsy again!)

Black Mage? Oh shi- no wonder she lost. CHRYSALIS KNOWS THE FABLED LEGENDARY HADOKEN! This explains why she needs so much love. She's planning to conquer the planet with the power of HADOKEN!!!

Villainous hubris.

If villains didn't have hubris, they'd be unstoppable. I mean, if Chrysalis had thought "Wait, shit, Twilight can free Cadence!" she would have had the Mane 6 kicked out of that room, and her conquest would have been complete. She REALLY lost when she turned her back on a known serious threat.

It's a clich'e to have dumb villains. Makes the story easier and shorter.

Or I should say a clich'e for villains to have mental lapses. Chrysalis was very intelligent.

Yeah, Chrysalis basically had everything in the bag. She didn't even make any real mistakes, if you think about it. It was just a minor oversight in letting Twilight creep around that cost her ultimate victory.

Ya know what I would have liked? Foreshadowing.

Random wizardly guy, "And I want see if the couple will achieve a harmonization singularity."

And then bam! Harmonization singularity.

That entire episode could have used some foreshadowing, Mr. God of AWESOME.

At least earlier in the season Twilight should have mentioned her brother, and changelings should have been mentioned in passing. Subtle things. I mean... Shining Armor is a cosby relative, Cadence is a Sue (a likeable one, but still), and Chrys is a Villain of the Week. At least the Gala had a buildup from early on.

^Tell me about it. I've never been able to understand that bullshit either!

If I were writing a show it'd be shown as the clearly weakest emotion outside of very super specific instances...

You can't blame her forgetting full of herself after beating Celestia, even though it took her by surprise.

In this scene, she looked extremely like a Samurai Jack character.
