We need more mods? |
| Anonymous #1344393 2 months ago |
I don't get it. Are they saying not to report things? |
| ZORDON #1344402 2 months ago |
Wouldn't it be better if all those reports without description were deleted automatically? I think that might help, and, if the pic was really offensive, many people would be reporting it. Someone may include a reason. |

Eco did a post about this recently here >>174911
"And as nice as it'd be to have more mods it's hard to find people who I trust enough to give the position." is the sentence you'd probably want to look at. |
| ZORDON #1344411 2 months ago |
#1344393 I think they're saying we need to report better. With description, and help them a bit with dupes.
Also, it's good to hear from mods from time to time. Hi guys! |
| Bluebell #1344413 2 months ago |
@Anon393
Report things all you want just give us things that we can do something about. So, if there's a duplicate, please give us a number. If an artist doesn't want their art here, please give us a link to the artist so we can look into it and make sure it isn't just a vendetta someone has against someone's art being here. |

OIC. Well you should make a faq of common ways to report on that breaks the rules such as:
-Tag vandalism -not pony related -racism or hate speech -etc and give exacting details. If such a FAQ already exists I am unaware of it. |

A Mod! Quick, catch it! |
| Bluebell #1344432 2 months ago |
Hello Zordon! Sorry I don't talk too often though. I'm afraid if I give myself a face and a personality that will give people greater animosity towards me than I would if I were just faceless name that you only see when you're banned, along with a snarky message.
Plus, I want to stay completely objective, which is the point of this website. If i'm not part of the community, I can't make special exceptions for people I like, yeah? |
| Eco #1344454 2 months ago |
Yeah. Part of the problem is that a lot of the reports we get aren't actually reports; they're people who accidentally typed tags into the report image box instead of the search box. And we have to delete them manually, and keep deleting them so that the report queue doesn't get so big that it won't load.
So basically: be careful about which box you're using on the left, and when you intend to report something, include enough info about it that it's easy for us to do our homework. |

Also I'm having Eco keep track of this thread as well, and he has admin powers to make adjustments to the site, so suggestions about how to run the site will be seen
Anon #423 http://ponibooru.413chan.net/rules.html that's our rules, and it's a bit to our discretion. Personally I ban racism and hate speech because i feel it falls underneath the rules "don't be a truculent jackass" These bans are usually anywhere from a week to two months I don't ban for not pony related, but delete images, unless the offender will not stop. |
| Anonymous #1344560 2 months ago |
Well, I would just suggest that things were a bit more streamlined and that maybe the mods were a little more aggressive with the banhammers. I'm not a computer whiz so I don't know how hard or effective banning is though.
I read the rules posted and I think it would be easier if the rules were a little more codified and specific but I don't know if that would help ultimately. |
| TheLoneLampman #1344563 2 months ago |
Since you don't trust anyone else for mod-ship, how about 'hiring' a few of us to sift through the reports and mark the ones that are accidental for you guys? No special powers, no deletion, just marked. That would help with your workload, would it not? |
| Bluebell #1344586 2 months ago |
Anon 560:
We've been more aggressive lately. It's all IP banning, and the bans have been longer to hopefully deter repeat offenses/keep people from doing it in the first place. |
| Anonymous #1344602 2 months ago |
Well, I have a dynamic IP, for example. How would someone deal with that? Back when I used to go to IRCs there was the ability to ban by ISPs and even counties or states. I don't know if that would be right for Ponibooru but just putting that out there. |
| Bluebell #1344651 2 months ago |
@602
Basically we'd just keep banning for ban evasion until you get bored, how it currently is. |
| Eco #1344657 2 months ago |
1344602: Subnet bans. There are one or two repeat offenders who are banned at the /16 level. And we have... other tools for dealing with people who use proxies (Mighty Dodongo, for instance). |
| Jack-o-Lantern #1344674 2 months ago |
I once got banned when I wasn't trying to be racist but now I'm being more careful and using down votes incase if what I say could be missunderstood as racism.
It was the way I was banned that really upset me. There was no judge, jury, or defense attorney, it was just prosecution without warning or anyway to defend myself. And 1 week felt like 1000 years for me. Some users should be banned but others make mistakes and a little "you're on thin ice" is enough to get them to stop. |
| Anonymous #1344681 2 months ago |
That is good to know Eco. But yeah, I figure if you can get more mods or speed up the process trolls will basically have to give up. If they know their troll images won't stay up more than an hour or so I've got to imagine that they will give up. |
| Eco #1344728 2 months ago |
@Jack: As bans get more common, yeah, it's probably becoming more important to have a formal appeal process. I'll see what I can do about that, and I'm sorry it wasn't there when that augean stable cleaning happened a few weeks back |
| SnowPhoenix #1344771 2 months ago |
Regarding the problem of searches accidentally being sent as reports, how much consideration have you given to making the two boxes a bit more distinguishable than they currently are? Perhaps giving the report box a light red background (that remains there even as users are entering text) or requiring users to confirm that they wish to submit a report (e.g. an alert box or page with a message like "You are about to submit a report for <reason here>. Do you wish to proceed?") might help with that problem? |
| Eco #1344782 2 months ago |
Having a confirmation box for the report form is actually something I've given some thought to. It mainly comes down to how hard it is to staple javascript onto shimmie in the place that creates the report box, which is something I haven't quite finished investigating. |
| Eco #1346033 2 months ago |
I added something simplistic to double-check before submitting a report. Hopefully this will help with misclicks. |
| Xuncu #1352083 2 months ago |
We have mods??? As in PLURAL?!? O_O |
| ChickNeighney #1372064 2 months ago |
This may be a bit late, but I was thinking. What if you guys gave a small number of trusted members mod privileges for a short time, if the report queue gets too long? Then they can help clear it up a bit, then you can demote them, so to speak, when it gets more manageable? Give each one a certain thing to look for, such as however many go after spam, however many go after not pony stuff, however many go after so on and so forth if there's that much? If you can't just give people powers and take them, how about making a bunch of dummy accounts for just that purpose? The only problem that could have is, as you said, the trust issue.
I don't exactly know if it's a good idea, but it's there. |
| TheLoneLampman #1385007 2 months ago |
I already suggested a pretty simple and non-threatening/unabusable idea that nobody commented on. I doubt that giving anyone 'powers' would happen for obvious trust issues.
Seriously Eco. Help us help you help us all. |
| Anonymous #1388348 2 months ago |
Oh, aye, so you did. I didn't see that, sorry. |
| ChickNeighney #1388365 2 months ago |
Sorry again, that was me. |

Eco@1344782 said: Really? I've dealt with it without any problem in the Ponibooru Board Helper. I can give you some advices, if that may help. |
