Her name is Nympha, Princess of the Changelings, and not QUITE an OC, since if you follow the headcanon I'm proposing here, the Cadance Twilight rescued and Shining Armor married was Nympha all along.
It always puzzled the heck out of me that the changeling queen, a creature that lives exclusively through deception, would so blatantly announce her goals as soon as her ruse has been called, and that's not even touching on how Twilight was even starting to believe she was wrong about Chrysalis until she trapped her with Cadance. So what if the trapped Cadance was also a changeling? Sure, she knew the Nursery rhyme that Cadance taught Twilight, but the first thing Twilight did in front of Chrysalis was that entire nursery rhyme, with full dance routine attached. How hard would it have been to pass that along to Nympha once Chrysalis decided her cover had been blown and that a fallback plan was needed? Now the obvious question left over is how Nympha managed to do the whole love recharge thing for Shining Armor, in order to blow away the other changelings, if she wasn't the real Cadance? Well, I have a whole multichapter epic still spinning in my head to address that issue, but the short answer is; she may not be the real Cadance, but she really DID fall in love with Shining Armor. Of course this still leaves the obvious question of "where the fuck is Cadance then!?" It also has an obvious answer when you consider that Changelings feed on love, and Cadance's talent is specifically creating love. I think she might wind up getting her name changed to Cornucopia. |

Well good luck, it certainly sounds like something epic. |

What if this changeling was ALWAYS Cadence? |

@GreyAcumane
Still sounds like an OC but nice story I'd read it |

P.S. I was joking and I respectfully disagree with your headcanon. |

as a footnote:
damn these ponies! why does such a simple artstyle so drastically improve the quality of my artwork? Up until MLP I simply could not get a handle on having any of my characters actually project emotions through expressions and body language. Now as long as I have an image in my head I can usually get it down on paper, and MLP also seems to have a knack for inspiring headcanony type speculation for me. |

@GreyAcumane: Proof that ponies improve anything. |

A changling that understands love? Looks like Nympha has been wearing her mask too long. |

As much as an interesting concept it is I think it deviates away from the established show too much |

What if Cadance was a changeling all her life, and the pink alicorn we saw was a form she had taken? |

@422
Aw no way! I just said the same thing ya crazy cunt! |

so... this Cornucopia-nympha-thingy loves SA. And she still has her duties (feeding the Swarm), so she'll suck the Love from captured SA for the rest of his life?
Quite tragic, considering she Does love him. I'd read that! |
| ClownDicks #1344769 2 months ago |
Wait, does feeding on love actually drain it? |
| RedshirtZombie #1345701 2 months ago |
@ClownDicks: I'd say 'not certain'.
The way Chrysalis describes it may imply that it does, Shining Armor describes his energy as being drained, and if it weren't then Chrysalis was either holding an idiot ball regarding her net plot or power-hungry enough to want more than just the ability to feed her people. OTOH, I do not recall seeing Chrysalis drain Shining, other stories' methods of 'emotion feeding' merely have the emotion catalyze ambient energy absorbtion*, and Shining's drain could be explained by his generation of the shield around Canterlot. On the gripping hand, I don't recall the exact series of events in-episode off hand. In all? Check the transcript on the mlp wikia, check TVTropes, rewatch the episode yourself, and make up your own fanon. For all I can say is a vastly overextended 'I'm not certain'. |

@BattleGT - It may be a less cuddly angle that the show would try to state outright, but the nice thing about MLP is that there is a lot of more mature issues and undercurrents that are only hinted at or presented in a way that kids who are too young for them just wont pick up on them.
I'm sure that if hasbro ever decides to touch back on Shining Armor and Cadance's marriage, it's going to completely kick my headcanon in the balls, but there's no guarantee that they ever will. Just look at how much airtime Tank has gotten since his introduction, or PeeWee. @Rezak - Cornucopia is a nickname that I would imagine the Changelings would give to the real Cadance. Nympha is Nympha. Though this issue is something I intend to get far more indepth about in the epic version I have planned. @others discussing energy/love draining To explain the energy drain issue: Chrysalis doesn't love him, she wants a pawn and to allow the rest of her hive to feed without restrictions, so she drains as much as she can, gives nothing back, and keeps him just barely functional. There also may be more energy drained when using magic to enthrall the subject, which chrysalis would need to use to keep SA from realizing that Chrysalis wasn't acting like the normal NymphaCadance. Nympha does love him, so even if unintentionally she is feeding energy BACK into him. She also likely is not draining him as forcibly (deliberately taking only as much as he can comfortably handle or give naturally) and also does not seem to be using magic to enthrall him. She may also have replaced Cadance from as early as when SA first started showing interest in Cadance and/or became Captain of the Royal Guard, so wouldn't need to use enthrallment to keep SA from noticing discrepancies in her personality. I usually make a point to check any headcanon I form pretty thoroughly for conflicts against in show canon, and so far I haven't found anything that can't be fairly reasonably explained. I figure most of what will decide if people accept this headcanon is if they felt the whole "we got married" ending was too simple, and want this concept to spice it up, or if they were actually happy with it and don't want to accept this because of how it "stains" the marriage due to the lie involved, even if the love itself wasn't a lie. |

I'm always up for an interesting re-interpretation. (Obligatory 'what a tweest!') |
