I actually liked the movie because of one thing- it was the inverse of a normal monster movie. In most giant monster films, people are secondary, like ants. Occasionally they'll tape on a human element segment now and then, but the focus is always on the monsters, the view from their skyscraper-high angle. Cloverfield was pretty much about the people, about how they react to the event, the monster being secondary. It's the human factor of a natural disaster- only it's not natural. |

I love the beginning of the movie, where they show the whole movie on like a film reel. As if the movie took place in the past. |
