Much like many memes, it's a way to kill time with something stupid. The basic premise of the fluffy pony is that there are genetically engineered talking balls of fluff who lack any real instinct for survival. They're not ponies in any "real" sense of the word, including relationship to MLP. Note that Fluffle Puff is not a fluffy pony, just a regular pony with lots of fuzz and a speech impediment. Some people love fluffy ponies because they're adorable little idiots who get into playful trouble. These are the "luffag" contingent. They write happy stories, which are generally boring or stupid. Then there's the "abusefag" contingent, which hate the fictional beasts because they are stupid, shitting messes, and abominations of nature. They write horrible and gory stories which are either attempt to shock and disgust with no real reason. These stories are also stupid. The third group is the people who just write stories to amuse themselves and neither hate nor love the imaginary critters. These wind up being the best stories because anything can happen in them, and it can be hilarious, tragic, or tragillarious. The point is, it's all stupid pointless fun. Anyone who even remotely takes fluffy pony love or abuse seriously is either a troll or needs a tighter grip on reality. |

Nice characters can be fun as long as they are interesting in other ways. Funny how that's why so many TV shows nowadays are kind of crummy with so many overtly cynical, mean characters instead of trying to make them more interesting through smarter dialog. That said, I can't pretend it's not an easy thing. It's just way too easy to make a character interesting just by making them mean. It's an actual challenge to make them nice and be interesting. |
