He's captain of the royal guard, so he is close to royalty. Color doesn't matter and who says that Twilight's real parents are not magically powerful? Even Shining Armor is capable at keeping a shield active around Canterlot.
Though, Cadence and Shining do either know each other since teenage times, or Twilight's parents are generally close to the royalty too. Or Cadence became her foal sitter when Twilight was already the pupil of Celestia. |

What a coincidence, I was actually mulling over this exact theory last night. Although it's certain that the writers never intended this to be true, when you look at the circumstances, it could certainly be possible. I'm sure we'll be seeing some fan fiction expounding on this idea soon. |
