Hrm.
For Changeling King he looks a little un-insectish and far too demon. Should strike a balance between those two. |

According to the artist:
"When I first saw Chrysali's true form, *ding* Voltaire's Black Unicorn. Voltaire is a music band, who have a song about a black unicorn, and the album cover shows it too. The full title is: "Riding a Black Unicorn Down the Side of and Erupting Volcano" (I know... I spelled "erupting" wrong, but too late now -.-) [link] Aaand in Adventure Quest Worlds, the Black Unicorn was the guest of Friday 13th event... so I know him very well. He don't have name, except "Black Unicorn" so I call him Voltaire, after the music band." So yeah. Personally, I'd rather he have a name fitting the insect theme of the changelings. Any ideas? |

Actually, evil overlords don't always resemble their minions. At all. Overlord himself, for example. You know, from Overlord.
The utter lack of similarities actually works pretty well. |

Yes but Chrysali is a member of the same race, able a queen caste. in fact a male changeling should just be a drone |

Thanks NightJack for that cd cover image. Looking at it now, I have to say I'm impressed at how the artist MLP-ed that beast.
@Alternating: Thanks for the link, I'll take a listen to it later. Now, what do you all think? Would a Changeling King work, and if so, would he be like this fellow right here or more like this? >>172967 & >>172968 |

I think Voltaire's is based on the unicorn version of the nightmare of D&D, so I say put some insect like wings on it and maybe some holes in it's legs and it's all set for a Changeling King, and I think it looks better then the other. |

*on what would be the unicorn |
| DreihornKing #1319202 2 months ago |
@Nightjack: With or without the armor? Personally, I'd think losing the armor would help a lot, maybe add a crown made of of thorns to compliment Queen Chrysalis's flower-crown? |

If we're still doing names for a hypothetical changeling king, I have a few ideas:
-Imago, after the adult stage of metamorphic insects. -Viceroy, after the Viceroy Butterfly, which tends to mimic other species to avoid predators. (Chrysalis is already named after butterfly pupae, and a mature butterfly can be referred to as an imago.) -Polyergus, after the Amazon Ant, known for infiltrating other colonies and stealing pupae to raise as slaves. (This one fits more with mythological changeling behavior, as they did pretty much the same thing.) -Chitin (self explanatory.) Though I wouldn't expect a male insect to really be worth anything; The insect world is a female's game. |

@Anon488: Good ideas, though I particularly like Polyergus and Viceroy the best. Any ideas on how the guy should actually look? Trying to work out a design for him right now. |

Why would the be a king at all if Chrysalis is an insect-like queen. |
| Anonymous #1323664 2 months ago |
*there |
| DreihornKing #1324310 2 months ago |
^Because 1.) While they are reminiscient of insects, they AREN'T actual insects, 2.) in Western folklore, fairy courts and clans had a queen AND a king, like King Oberon and Queen Titania of the Fairies that we see in William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream; 3.) The Changelings behave and act in many ways like the original Fay, or fairies and elves, in Western mythology, and 4.) So, given that's the case, why not let them have a king? There could even be a chess-theme included, like the queen is the most powerful piece but the king plays a vital and crucial role, without whom the game is lost. |

Polyergus is also (latinised) greek for much-doings or many-schemes. |
