@Cgeta: It actually makes so much sense for Season 2's opening to end Season 1. The letters to Celestia from the first season brought Twilight back, and the events proved what the mane six had learned about friendship. It was like the culmination of the first 26 episodes.
And now with an epic two-parter to finish this season, there's a structural basis for it. Huh. Makes me wonder why they moved Discord at all. |

I have a feeling that the first episode of series 3 will actually be a feature length made-for-TV film, which will then be available on DVD the following Monday. And that's why John de Lancie is back and why there aren't as many episodes this time around. |

I have a nagging feeling too. That after we are done with season 3 there will be a live action movie, like the teenage mutant ninja turtles, but with ponies and at New York. |

@OP, Though I can't remember where I saw it, but there are rumors swirling around of there being ALOT MORE 2-parters and possibly there even being a 3-parter in season 3. |

Live action pony movie? Perish the thought. I'd much rather see a Full length Feature Written by either M.A. Larson or Megan Mcarthy. In my opinion those two have the best feel for the show and have written the Best episodes of the series |

They should move the multi-parter up to the middle of the season just to mix things up.
A multi-part season finale would still be muchly appreciated, but I guess that would count as having a cake and eating it too or whatever. |
