Any good tacticion will study their enemy and look for ANY weakness to exploit. It's possible she stumbled upon the caves as means to infiltrate the castle, but found that they made a more suitable prison than a passage. |

Celestia's power doesn't rival the sun, she creates a small artificial sun over the twisted land in which they inhabit (she brings the sun only to Equastria not their whole world, as seen by the brown cloudy land beyond the Everfree forest where the blue sky suddenly stops. |
