My attitude towards shipping is generally neutral-to-negative [okay, okay, I've shipped three couples; none of them in direct violation of canon, none of them in this show and none of them same-sex (no homophobe)], and I didn't notice the "kiss" until it was pointed out to me (after closely inspecting the scene I noticed that there *is* a moment when RD's closed mouth is right next to Fluttershy's nose, which could be interpreted as a unilateral kiss). What bugs me here is that believing that there was a kiss is being conflated with shipping. Does a kiss always have to be interpreted as a sexual gesture (especially if, as I pointed out above, there's no way that it was a mouth-to-mouth kiss)? Can a friend not kiss another friend simply as a sign of affection, or as a comforting gesture in a dangerous situation? Probably a cultural thing, but I can totally imagine RD doing that without having the hots for Fluttershy. |

Everyone here who is prepared to call someone stupid for perceiving an action in a television show in a certain way: Leave this and all other fandoms immediately. Preferably headed in the direction of Hell, but it's up to you. We don't need you muddling up our entertainment media. Fanon. Headcanon. Basically what these things mean is that in fiction, events are subjective. If someone wants to believe this is a kiss, then good, it's a kiss. If someone doesn't want to believe that, then fine, it's not. These two things are not mutually exclusive. So if you don't believe this is a kiss, then kindly go about not believing it's a kiss without insulting the people who do. |

For real? I am a huge, great, near unstopable FluterDash shipper, but also a pretty reasonable one, what I really think:
A kiss did happen, however, it wasn't a romantic kiss, canon Fluttershy-Rainbow Dash relationship is almost sisterly, it was just a conforting, quick smooch on the top of her nose in a way to say "Hey, don't worry, I am here, nothing will happen to you". Seriously, they are my OTP, but I realize it is 100% impossible to happen in canon, just like every other couple in the show, one of the best points on FiM is that it avoids romance as much as possible, even Valentine's episode ended in an ambiguous way. |
