Honestly, my own headcanon on Cadence isn't fetal absorption. I'm trying to decide between...
1) She's princess of a different pony kingdom, possibly a vassal state to Equestria, and came to Canterlot as a filly for study. Perhaps she's from the "original land" mentioned in Hearth's Warming Eve. And she's probably not nigh-immortal like Celestia & Luna. 2) She's not a "true" alicorn like Celestia & Luna, but looks like one due to a rare gene mutation. Other ponies assumed she was royalty and Celestia decided to go with it because troll. Also, with Luna still stuck on the moon at the time, Celestia probably figured Equestria could use an heir in case something happened to her. |

I prefer the Greek Pantheon theory though. Nothing wrong with a few more alicorns, if they're as acceptable as Cadence. Yeah, she's a bit of a Sue, but I surprise myself with how okay I am with that. |

I think Cadence confirmed an headcannon of mine.
There is 2 kind of alicorn in equestria: the regular one, rare but quite a number all over Equestria, pony sized and with not much more magical power than a unicorn. And then what i like to call "celestial alicorn" powerful and maybe immortal beings that rule on pony kindred. |

Cadance has power over LOVE. Love is a pretty fucking powerful thing over which to hold dominion. Frankly, she can be as mystical and rarified as she damn well pleases.
Besides, common unicorns took on the raising/lowering dutuies well before Celestia and Luna did. |

My personal headcanon is that, unlike Celestia and Luna (who are straight-up immortal), Cadence is immortal through reincarnation, similar to the Avatar (from Avatar: The Last Airbender).
The Sun and the Moon are eternal and forever watchful, but Love is fleeting, but can spring up from the most unlikely places. What Celestia and Luna do every 100 or so years is go out and search for the new Avatar of Love, and once she (or rarely, he) is of a proper age (anywhere from just after she gets her cutie mark to adulthood), deify her (make her into an alicorn), and teach her how on how to be a royal. Also, Head Cannnon! He has a fuse for a tail! That's awesome! |
