And no one even blinked an eye when Rarity's parents appeared, when Twilight has a brother?! *GASP* And from the sounds of things, they already knew she had a brother. Not one of them were surprised about him, just that he was getting married. |

Anon223 yeah, like every episode has some big crisis, no slice-of-life or relationship building at all, nope.
Plus Rarity's parents were only to set up an episode plot, and we know she has parents. Shining was an important character and a sibling that Twilight never even seemed to be aware of for 54 episodes, no indication at all from the show. |

The reason Twilight never told her friends that she had a brother is the same reason Shining Armor kept his entire engagement to Cadence (not just the upcoming wedding) a secret from his own sister. In some families, personal matters are considered private and are rarely discussed openly.
I thought it was a nice touch, actually, showing how much alike the two siblings are. |

Nobody else saw Rarity's parents anyway. They were just in her house. So what the fuck is everyone talking about?
Small talk like "Have any brothers or sisters?" or "What do you do for a living?" is common among people meeting for the first time to break the awkward silence, but among friends such topics may never come up unless they were relevant. Of course Shining Armor was not there the whole time, but he's there now, so think about what that implies instead of just complaining. ^ Martianmister sums it up pretty well. |
