This did cross my mind at one point but it'd just not work out.
Or... maybe the changeling is stuck in Pinkie's form after the attack, went nuts about not being able to shift anymore and started playing grimdark dress-up to emulate other ponies (poorly). It'd also fulfill the 'do evil stuff just because' quota that at least Chrysalis is compelled to do. Wait... nah. You're just trading one set of plotholes for another. The changeling's food source, knowing about Gilda, being happy and cheerful at all times to name a few. But you do get a more plausible backstory. @Spiffy But wouldn't this actually support the headcanon claims? Assuming it's perpetually set in the future or something to account for RD. It's far easier to try to claim that with the better backstory. Also, it allows people to offload that evil personality to a 'throw-away' character although that's a bit of a cop-out as Vree mentions. |
