The power down thing does make sense. Kinda like Super Sajins from DBZ. The hair/mane are all glowy sparkly and levitating while in super form, but in the regular form they're normal.
Also explains why Candice is not glowy like that. She's not able to reach Super Alicorn Levels. Ka Me Ha Me Luv! *fires off a heart beam* |

Luna doesn't seem to live in Canterlot, actually. Remember, she had to fly in from outside the forcefield for her night shift. I think she was only there for heightened security. She probably went home in the morning. |
