So, her entire species is evil?
Because that bugs me. It remains unexplained. Also, are all Predators violent hunters?

These are important questions, people!

^ Evil is a matter of perspective.

(Unless you're a rapist or something. Then you're just evil, no matter what.)

Her entire species are parasites, they need to be aggressive inorder to get food or else they would die.

What if you are Rape Man and use your laser cock to rape villians and criminals for justice?

Lium is right. Evil is a matter of perspective. And if Bobrella is also right then that means all the ponies are evil if you ask the shapeshifters.

Judging by how she was able to feed off of Shining Armor without injuring him, they don't have to hurt their prey.

The question is, were/are all the changelings under the Queen's control? Ones who aren't wouldn't necessarily be as violent. It could still be a similar situation as dragons, where all of them are jackholes with no interest in changing, of course. But they don't have to be evil.

@SendoRoba

Inflicting more pain isn't justice.

The changelings are thinking, intelligent beings. If they don't find a way to feed while causing a minimum of pain and harm to the ones that they feed on, then it's sadism.

Probably my least favourite villain in the series.
She may have had the ability and malevolence, but her personality was underdeveloped and nonpresent.
Her design was kinda cool, though. Imagine how the toys for a bug/alicorn-hybrid would terrify all the seven year old girls >:)

I wonder if there are changelings that can actually love, so both they and their "victims" are happy.

They are "neutral evil".

^ Alternatively, you could write off the malicious glee they showed, especially the queen, as a kind of defensive apathy towards their 'prey', as it would cause them too much guilt and emotional pain if they had to continually 'feed'(use and lie to) some pony with which they had developed an emotional bond.

Also, they might turn out to be very friendly as long as they're just among each other. *shrug*

@power it's all up in which side you do indentify more
if you're on the pony side changelings are horrible deceiving monsters, or at best malicious aliens (think about kyuubey, if you know it)

but if evil is too much controversal or relative, they are parasites with possibly low ability to self control and able to form a stable equilibrium with their preys, if not they wouldn't had the need to invade a nation if their home land was still fine

Changelings are actually perfectly reasonable beings that can integrate almost seamlessly with a society of normal ponies. They are easily able to subsist on the love they garner from friends and possibly mates.

Crissy is just a bitch who wanted more power instead of just survival. Unfortunately she managed to attract a following and trapped Cadence, the real changeling queen.

Luckily Cadence got back and with the power of love cast a supercharged spell to banish the power hungry faction of the changelings. All the normal ones got to stick around safe in the knowledge that everyone thinks the changelings gone.

This explains why true love somehow managed to save the day, why there were a billion doppelgangers in the audience at the second ceremony that no one complained about, and the multitude of clones running around Equestria all the time.

The one fighting Pinkie Pie showed the ability to understand language and even a willingness to respond to a request. So they have at least some intelligence. As an insectile species with a Queen, the individuals might be less free-willed than a standard pony; they certainly didn't seem to mind hurling themselves against Shining Armor's forcefield. The holes in the legs suggest to me that they're not entirely material beings, but rather spirit or energy; the Queen may be able to feed her young initially.

If they could feed off of love directed at who they really were, they wouldn't have to lie; I'm willing to bet a shapeshifting pony subspecies with a small number of members could do fine in Equestria if they survived on love. If their only food source is true love directed at somepony they're impersonating, though, I can't see how they could possibly feed ethically.

Much like zanzibar says, raider and pirate communities tend to dehumanize their victims. If you have a conscience and have to feed off of intelligent beings through deceit, that's rather awful. ...come to think of it, what if changelings have to be rude and loveless toward other ponies because loving somepony depletes stored love they need to survive on? Gawd, that'd be like an entire species with Angellus' curse. T_T

Here are a few options Equestria might explore if they were willing to coexist with changelings:

a) Could the love of pets work? Perhaps young critters could imprint on a pony master and then be handed off to a changeling impersonating them.

b) Perhaps a method could be developed for a limited population of changelings to feed off of the ambient love in Equestria.

c) Or perhaps changelings could become actors. Maybe love sent toward a series of fictional characters would be nutritious to them. Deceit and suspension of disbelief are close cousins.

The story discussion and brainstorming that goes on here is something I love about Ponibooru.

Personally, I would like to believe that Changelings were once ponies of a far off land, with a queen whom they loved very much. Perhaps this queen was even the Alicorn from Hearts and Hooves day who partook of the love poison. Some sort of horrible magical accident or event occured, transforming the Queen and her subjects into the creepy, insectoid, "unloveable" Changelings.

I'd like to believe that a changeling could live off of genuine love for what it is without the need to impersonate somepony else, and that the belief that they are fundamentally "unloveable" as a race is the reason why they turn to deceit and deception in order to gain their sustainance.

This also raises the question of, if a Changeling takes somepony's form and then goes out and enters into a new relationship without actually taking that pony's place, would it still work? For instance, multiple Bon Bons. Is Lyra's Bon Bon a Changeling who fell in love and let the original Bon Bon continue on with her life?

Lots of questions.

My own theory is they are like Unseelie fae

Sure they can seem wicked and evil. But they really aren't meaning to be. Its just in their nature. They have no concept of what good or evil is.

They might look similar but their minds and emotions are utterly alien. She fed on love but probably only had a basic enough understanding of what love was to imitate it. And even that would of probably gone poorly if she wasn't brainwashing Shining Armor inbetween her heals.
