Lyra lives in Ponyville but has family in Canterlot, who she visits often.
BonBon is not on good terms with Lyra's family, which is why she never goes with her to Canterlot. Lyra was on one of those visits in the first episode. She waved to Twilight because she remembered her from Magic Kindergarten. |

Lyra's a unicorn. Her family lives in Unicornia..er, Canterlot, just like Twilight's. She grew up there, just like Twilight. But it's not like Twilight is the only unicorn who lives in Ponyville, not by a longshot. Most moved there. Rarity's an outlier in that respect, a unicorn who grew up in Ponyville. Lyra probably just moved there around the same time Twilight did. |
