See, here's the problem-- you're only saying that because you are invested in her having red eyes. To people who don't care, they can accept that they are purple/magenta and move on, because they're clearly not red and they have no reason to try and prove otherwise. There's no point in trying to preserve fanon when the show refutes it. When the refutes fanon, it keeps moving further and further away from it as time goes on, thus the excuses people have to come up with for how said fanon still fits with the show's canon keep getting more and more desperate and ridiculous. What's next? Are we going to claim that Twilight Sparkle's brother is from an alternate dimension to preserve all the fanfictions where she's an only child, or an OC is captain of the royal guard? |

The funny thing? OP's trolling gif is still wrong.
Scratch's canon eye colour is pretty much identical to Rainbow Dash's. This gif is a bit too purple. I'll be honest I'm gonna miss the blood-red eyes, but magenta works too. We can always say she normally wears red contacts to her club gigs. |

@ 552 (and to a lesser extent, 272): The ironic part is that (much like the Lyra Heartstrings mess) you seem to care more about disallowing fanon explanations than the people who are coming up with them. If they want to come up with an explanation for Scratch's eyes, who cares? You yourself, Braeburn, said that there's a good chance she will never come back, so what the fuck difference does it make if people do cling to fanon over this? Who fucking cares if people want to say lighting conditions changed the color of her eyes?
That street runs both ways: If the canon color of her eyes is so unimportant that it is stupid to cling to fanon over the issue, than it doesn't suddenly become important to for the purposes of forcing people to accept canon. And comparing it to pretending Twilight's brother never existed? Give me a break. |

To make an extreme example: this is like fans coming up with elaborate explanations for how Darth Vader is not Luke's father, even though in the movies they said that he is. It doesn't matter if Darth Vader being Luke's father ruins your favorite fanfic-- that's what the official explanation is, and even if you trying to rationalize it without accepting it doesn't hurt anyone, it still makes you look stupid and it makes you look like you do not respect the authority of the storyteller, even for things as arbitrary as a character's eye color. This is not even some universe-ruining piece of garbage like Mass Effect 3's ending-- they simply revealed that a character's official eye color is different form how a lot of fan artists were drawing her, and for some reason a lot of fans can't accept it and insist that the show is somehow an inaccurate portrayal of her. Essentially, said fans are acting as if the show's artists have less authority than the fans when it comes to how characters are drawn. What's next? Are we going to start saying that Rainbow Dash's mane is dyed and that her real hair color is brown, just because some fans don't want to accept that she has rainbow colored hair? A line has to be drawn somewhere, and this is as good a place as any-- IMO if the show directly refutes a fan theory, the fandom should accept it and move on. Instead, a lot of them are acting as if the show doesn't count, and that somehow fan works are more canon than what's in the show itself. That's retarded, and I don't see how anyone can think that this is a reasonable way for the fanbase to behave, especially when it's over something so stupid and meaningless as a character's eye color not matching someone's fan art. |

In this case its more of a one lazy ass animator who failed to do his homework when trying to be awesome and do a stunt for the fans. What I personally think applies here the most is: If you cant do it right, then dont do it all. They could easily skip that one move when she pulls her glasses up. |
