I liked her a little while after she was mentioned. I was willing to give her a chance unlike the scores of assholes who immediately attacked her for just being an Alicorn. Are you all really that fucking prejudiced against Alicorns that aren't Celestia and Luna? Bite me.

So like I said I was willing to give her a chance and you know what? I'm glad I did. She turned out to be such a sweet and fun-loving character and is just so awesome.

Yes. Yes, they did. She didn't need the wings, and she still doesn't, but if there were minor problems with this excellent season finale, Cadence was not one of them.

Still thought she could have used more characterization, but otherwise, yeah, I'm happy with it.

Heck, I don't even care that she's a winged-unicorn anymore, since in my head canon, the Changeling were originally winged-unicorns, but got corrupted.

Celestia, Luna, and Cadance are the last.

Makes me content anyway.

Most of the "mary-sue" stuff was in reaction to a third alicorn being introduced. By the time the episode finally came out, I think most of us got over that fact and accepted that there's a third alicorn now.

What I'm really impressed with the fandom is how some of us are not only accepting this new fact, but adapting headcannon in a way that works her in (i.e. the Greco-roman gods comparison)

Not to mention she has been shown to age, meaning that she's not as immortal as her aunts, which I leads to discounting that her power is equal to Celestia and Luna.

As for the characterization, she's been shown to be very nice and honest. There's not much to it, but she's likable and not a "bad" character by any means. The wordless interactions between her and Shining Armor prove that there is a strong affectionate bond between them (bravo Studio DHX, this is the second time this season you pulled off this kind of subtlety with only actions).

well it's more of they didn't do terribly (she seemed like an average bride character to me) and we had time to get over it
If they never told us she was an alicorn things would just go crazy when the episode aired

In a word, yes.

Cadence is a pretty cool cat. I'm all for her popping up again down the road. Shining Armor's cool too. And Chrysalis is an excellent villain. A bad guy using the power of love? That's pretty hilarious. The new characters were excellent.

She IS a ridiculous Mary Sue character.

But as long as she doesn't have more appearances than Luna, I can live with it.

That's just how great the staff behind FiM is: Hasbro ordered an episode that would advertise their new shitty playset, and they made an awesome story out of it. It really shows how great a merchandise driven TV series can be in the hands of right people.

I didn't get too many bad vibes from her, but then again I didn't watch any of the previews or read any synopses prior to the finale. So that's probably why.

I'll admit I had my /eyeroll moment towards Hasbro when I saw she was a pink princess alicorn but I still held out judgement on whether or not she'd be good in the show itself - and it's no surprise that the FiM team made her into a genuinely enjoyable character!

At the end of the first episode I was ready to yell "I TOLD YOU SO. Another plot revolving around a silly misunderstanding"

And then everything went awesome.

I don't think she's a Mary Sue. She didn't even have any special or even godlike powers like Luna and Celestia do.

She's been shown to grow UP, she's yet to grow OLD.

And you whiners, "Mary Sue" is not shorthand for "I don't like this character." Nor for "I don't like how this character messes up my personal Fanon."

I for one waited to see how she would turn out and passed no judgement beforehand, other than "I REALLY like her MANE!"

Because her design IS pretty. Hey, we accept other pink ponies, Cadance is allowed to be pink, DAMMIT.

(Still, she has a lovely singing voice, her Ponessa counterpart was awesomely evil, and all-in-all I wound up wanting to see more of all three newbies, so...)

Pfff real Cadence never showed up only another copy, the whole thing was really a two layer deception, and the shapeshifters actually won without anyone noticing. I mean just look at all the duplicates at the second ceremony.

Well Prince Blueblood is a nephew, too. Either his blood is thinner or Alicornness is passed through rhe X chromosomes or something so that only Girls can be alicorns. So she could be on the same level as him. And we never saw how powerful he was.

If it were X-linked, mostly males would be alicorns, and rarely females, given that XY generally behaves as homozygous for an X-linked disease.

My personal headcanon for the high female to male alicorn ratio is similar to that of many birth defects - most alicorns born are female because males are rarely carried to term and most alicorns that are born die within minutes or are stillborn.

However, the ones that survive past infancy have superior magical ability or something.

Aquilinus captured it.

She is a Mary Sue OP stupid-flawless pointlessly-Alicorn (or was she supposed to be a pegasus at first, thus making her overly-pointy by virtue of being an alicorn?)

The only dynamics in her character is the fact that she had a doppleganger. If the entire story was just "Let's drop in a new Alicorn Princess who loves all of Twilight's friends and was Twilight's babysitter (even though still a princess) and oooh now she's going to be a pretty bride" we would have rejected her completely. She just gets props from having been Chrysalis' chosen host.

Now Shining Armor, there was some good characterization. Balance of Family, Duty, and Love; Rape by Deception and dealing with such feelings; At the same time being a kickflank Barrier Maiden Stallion despite the physical pressure.

To be honest, I hated the idea of them shoving her into the show. I hated how it was a contributing factor to Faust leaving. I was worried how things would turn out.

Thankfully I was worried over nothing. I now have total and complete faith in team FiM and applaud them for making, in my opinion, the very best episode ever. I wouldn't mind seeing more of her in the future.

Lauren was right on the money saying she left the show in very capable hands.

Yes, and SA too. Just goes to show how awesome the FiM team is, to turn a face-value stupid cash grab into something great.
