| Flamma_Man #1298278 2 months ago |
Season 2.
Really, it had TWO two-parters, along with two villains. AND THE SECOND VILLAIN HAD A SONG. I rest my case. |
| Zincy #1298282 2 months ago |
I enjoyed it. Seems like after they dropped the ei rating they could play around a little more, slip shit under the radar. |
| LorenzoP #1298289 2 months ago |
About....... 20% cooler. |
| Impious #1298290 2 months ago |
Overall Season 2 was weaker than Season 1 due to the lack of an overall storyline (season 1, for all its non-linearity, at least had the gala plot and everything leading to it). However, Season 2 had some awesome episodes, and that finale was glorious.
It's a tossup, I dunno. As a season its weaker, but overall I think MLP is getting even better. |
| Gittonsxv #1298292 2 months ago |
i loved it, it was better with stuff and anon, that is the normal way of doing it, learn the characters then show the story xD |

I'll take Season 2 over the first any day of the week. |

SEASON 2 FINALE
ALL IS FORGIVEN ![]() |
| marioandsonic #1298303 2 months ago |
The only reason I would say season 2 is "less magical" is because I didn't discover this series until about a year ago, when season 1 was wrapping up. So season 2 may not have seemed as "new", I guess.
There were also some "meh" episodes if you ask me, but so did season 1, so...I'd say they're about even. I think Season 2 had better songs, though. |
| Anonymous #1298310 2 months ago |
As Timmy Turner's dad would say.
Season 2 was ACTIONY! |
| Anonymous #1298311 2 months ago |
Season 2 had more violence, and extra music, and god like freaking animation.
>But it had less spike, i was expecting him to have a swag on moment and fuck up shit and all that in dragon form. But it was good. |
| Stargazer #1298339 2 months ago |
Season 2 made the place more lively when they started paying more attention to side and background characters.
Season 2 IMO took what made Season 1 so great and took it a step further! Season 2 had more Luna, *Hugs* lol But over all, I'd say Season 2 was better, but they were both just so fun to watch and enjoy! I'm looking forward to Season 3. |
| Yorec #1298345 2 months ago |
I enjoyed season 2 a lot. Some episodes were okay, but that finale!!
Can't wait to see the villain of Season 3!! |
| Super_Writer #1298369 2 months ago |
Overall, I felt season 2 was much better. Overall animation was better, the stories were better, and the characters were better. Add the Derpy scene and Luna's return, and I'd say it was a pretty solid season.
Even if Mare do Well was complete garbage. |
| BattleGT #1298395 2 months ago |
I share some of my Sentiments with 273. I do think that the characterizations could have been more consistent this season.(You could possibly pin it on the multiple writeers but cest la vie). Shoutout to the animation team for making this show great they have improved over the course of the season and make the show look great.
When I get the chance I will rewatch the first and second season and see the differences in season 1 and 2 and see if my thoughts on episodes have changed at all. |
| neoswordmaster #1298398 2 months ago |
I prefer Season 2 to 1. I just find the episodes overall more enjoyable. They seemed to touch on a lot more characterization than the first season.
Don't get me wrong, the Rarity episodes and Party of One are still fantastic, but for me that's mostly all Season 1 had to offer. Season 2 developed characters to a much greater degree. They were their own obstacle to overcome in some cases. In particular, Pinkie attempting to become responsible in "Baby Cakes" and the developing of the relationship between Sweetie Belle and Rarity. Emotional scenes that brought characters to tears were in just about every episode. Heck, even the CMC episodes, save Cutie Pox, were actually pretty funny this season. Of course, I can't forget to bring up the two parters that the sandwich the season. It began with a bang and ended with an explosion. Though I'm not the type to try to "convert" others into the show, if I was I'd show them season 2 episodes rather than season 1...plus Party of One. |

season 2 was more magical
season 1 was more friendly |
| BattleGT #1298419 2 months ago |
That said I have enjoyed season 2 a lot and hope that DHX Studio carries the momentum with this finale here. |
| Littlecabbit #1298456 2 months ago |
Honestly, I liked season one, but season two, I felt, was much funnier, the humor was better, and there were less boring episodes for me, it just had alot more gags, so season two was far better. ...In my opinion anyway |
| 441 #1298471 2 months ago |
Season 2 was a more extreme season, in which while there were certainly bad episodes (I'm looking at you, MMDW), There where also a lot of great episodes, where in Season one they just stayed in the good, never deviating much further. |
| Anonymous #1298501 2 months ago |
I liked season 1 a bit more. While season 2 brought about a bit more character development, it felt more about silly gags and character's interactions with one-shots and side characters than with them interacting with each other in a funny/entertaining way for most of the episodes. Also I felt they dropped the ball hard on characterization in a few episodes. I think season 1 was better as a whole, while season 2 had some really good individual episodes but really bad ones as well. |
| Takuto_Shindou #1298516 2 months ago |
Season 1 is cuter, more innocent, better songs, better moral lessons,it has more episode continuity and the humor is more sophisticated and soft.
Basically on season 1 you feel like you're a kid again watching cartoon network. Season 2 has better animation, epicer plots and it has the kind of humor that makes you laugh until you pee like kick buttowsky and the first seasons of fairy oddparents, the humor got a little bit forced but funnier, but the innocence its over, the animators are pratically saying its not a kids cartoon anymore,a lot of sexual innuendos, implied rainbowapple kiss, rarity i'll destroy her. Overall,i pick season 1 because imo what makes mlp great its because its a child cartoon,i see no reason to turn into something more mature to please older fans, and that comes from a 18 years old boy. |
| Cyrus23 #1298517 2 months ago |
Season 1 created the world. We get the taste of the morals, and setting, which is all sunshine and butterflies when you come to think about it. The magic makes you feel welcome, and you are interested as hell.
Season 2 established the world. More space to kick around and establish basically. Situations are now more fleshed out, and the scenarios are presented to be more realistic in my opinion. (ie. Pinkie Pie babysitting, Applejack losing, Fluttershy growing a pair) Even though I feel that the common sense factor has some issues, I like the effort that was displayed, and the charm is still there. Of course it is less magical, but at the same we get to flesh the world out even more. |

my opinion:
First I have to say that I approached both seasons with completly different feelings. Season 1 was already at episode 17 or something when I discovered the show and well it was new and exciting. This novelty faded over time (like with all things) and instead MLP became a big part of my life and one of my biggest hobbies. Season 1 started out a big weak in my opinion but only got stronger with each new episode. Season 2 was a bit different with a very very strong start that overshadowed some episodes in the middle of the season with a few exceptions. The ending was pretty strong again. But above all season 1 and 2 have a pretty clear difference in my opinion. Season 1 focused pretty much solely on the mane6 and CMC, season 2 on the other hand did A LOT of world-building and brought us a bigger connection to Ponyville and Equestria themselves. More background ponies, more "public" events, more characters etc. etc. Season 1 laid out the foundation, season 2 greatly expanded on it. I love both seasons and can't wait what's in store for season 3, especially since Lancie hinted at another apperance (I hope as Discord !!!) |
| EricNeoMatrix #1298551 2 months ago |
Both of them were awesome in their own special ways.
But Season 1 will always be the most magical, simply because it gave us the show that we all enjoy now. |

There's something special about season 1 but there's something epic about season 2. |
| Takuto_Shindou #1298601 2 months ago |
Remember the winter wrap up episode?
Or the Look before you sleep episode? Those were the most innocent thing ever,i don't see eps like this anymore.. |
| Shin32 #1298735 2 months ago |
I have to agree 441. Season 1, in opinion, was more balanced, rating from amazing to average with its episodes whereas Season 2 had really awesome episodes and some moments I really did not like.
I really don't like the argument about season 1 being better due to having an overall story arch. There were only about two out of the 25 that built up to Best Night Ever and I personally thought Best Night Ever wasn't all that great. A good episode, a good ending to the season, but probably not among my top 10. I mean, sure, it would have been nice to learn about Shining Armor being Twilight's brother in a previous episode, but it really didn't take anything away. In the end, Canterlot Wedding is probably the closest we'll get to an FiM movie, one with Disney Renaissance style quality. |
| RepentantAnon #1298764 2 months ago |
ehh season 2 was nice, but i think there were too many episodes geared at teaching a character a lesson, like the twilight and rainbow episodes. not that im complaining, those were still awesome, but noone likes their favorite character to be the daily cosmic chew toy *cough*itsabouttime*cough* |
| John #1298771 2 months ago |
I'd give the first season 10/10 and the second season 12/10 (u c wat I did thar?). |
| derpyshooves #1298803 2 months ago |
the first season didn't have a lot of interesting story but it really built the characters and was so funny!
season two had MUCH better story and lots of good songs (smile song is best song), but much of the humor was kinda in your face. |
| Anonymous #1298827 2 months ago |
Loved the first season, but hated the finale.
Loved the second season and loved the finale with the strenght of a thousand suns. |
| thatguy #1298864 2 months ago |
Season 2 was better in most aspects.
Season 1 had better characterization than the first half of season 2, but season 2's characterization improved in the second half. Season 2 also had better supporting characters and antagonists, by far, better plots, better animation and better music. |
| Cherny_Pegas #1299148 2 months ago |
Season 2 had more blatant product placement and it awfully flanderized Big Mac. But it also had better humor, more adult jokes, lots of interesting storylines, it developed the universe, and it made the show more realistic by showing death or toilets. Although season 01 had this charm of discovering how awesome cartoon ponies can be, by S02 it became something obvious and natural. All in all, I love them both in their own ways. |
| Gamesadict #1299388 2 months ago |
Everyone already said it, but oh well.
Season 2 had better stories, the songs were even better, the animation was impressive. Season 1 was were they developed the characters, so that one truly had some charms that no other season will have. |
| Anonymous #1299939 2 months ago |
Season 2 had the worst episode of the series, but it had the better episodes regardless of them being rare.
The first season only had one weak episode, and the rest remained quality through out. Season 2 had better songs, but it had the worst songs as well. Season 1 had consistently okay songs and the really awesome Winter Wrap Up. Season 2 had better villains. There is no comparison there. Season 1 was consistently good, while Season 2 had a lot of ups and downs in my opinion. Not every episode was the best thing ever as most fans will say after each episode. Season 1 was good because it was good. Season 2 was good because they took notice of us. Season 1 was better overall and in my opinion was the better season. Season 2's weak links outweigh it's strong points. |
| I_Like_Your_Mane #1301354 2 months ago |
I disagree that Season 1 had more of a point. IT was about a big fat, useless party, nothing more.
Season 2 had Equestria in mortal danger at least twice in the two-parters. Also, I think the songs and comedy was better in Season 2 and they tried a lot of new styles of animation and episode types. Season 2 is better, though Season 1 had the nostalgia factor going for it. |
| SirPayne #1301684 2 months ago |
@Cyrus23
You nailed my sentiments exactly |
| Saint_Braeburn #1301853 2 months ago |
I started watching MLP Season 2 first, and I didn't watch the majority of Season 1's episodes until I was about Mid way through Season 2 .
So, for me it was Season 2 not Season 1, that has the nostalgia factor. And I have very liberal views on characterization. For me Rainbow Dash was only slightly out of character in "Mare Do Well" . Plus in my opinion, Season 2 had better songs, better animation, a better finale, and funnier writing. So for me, Season 2 easily blew Season 1 away. However that's not to say Season 1 was bad or anything. |
| I_Like_Your_Mane #1302215 2 months ago |
>For me Rainbow Dash was only slightly out of character in "Mare Do Well"
I could argue that the town's worship of RD made her more even more arrogant than she usually is. That was basically her 'going crazy' episode, but without the overtness of Lesson Zero or Party of One. It's akin to Last Rodeo where Applejack had to twist her morals a bit. Plus, her fear of failure and being one upped hasn't been explored enough, but we saw the signs in Season 1 (Fall Weather Friends and Sonic Rainboom) |
| I_Like_Your_Mane #1302218 2 months ago |
Excuse me. I meant Last Roundup, not rodeo. |
| YoyoTripleThree #1302573 2 months ago |
I like season 1 more. It was more consistently good, while season 2 was - in my opinion - more bumpy. Season 2 did have a lot of gems in it, though. After all, it did give us "Lesson Zero".
Though, for all that season 2 did wrong, I got to give them props for trying a lot of new things, even if everything didn't always work out. It was probably the more ambitious season, overall. |
| Anonymous #1302588 2 months ago |
The show grew in season 2. It did have a few episodes that weren't that great, but so did season 1. I like that the cast actually learns and the continuity is there. Also there is a great deal of fanservice once the fanbase was established. |
| Ichijoe #1309620 2 months ago |
Season One had hidden (or not so hidden) ~in jokes~ like for ex. the yakety sax song, or Pinky doing her homage to Pepe la Pew thing.
That's what kinda got me hooked on the show, the Net made me stay (i.e. Cupcakes), Pinkamina sealed the deal, and FlutterRAGE sent it to teh Moon! I'm sorry but RTH (Pts 1 & 2) were really more like Episodes 27 and 28 of Season 1. Or at best Specials, I can't really see it as part of any Season TBH. That said I thought most of S2 went no were (See Gala Plot), most of the in-jokes seemed to have dried up. as a prior Luna fanboi post emo Luna I didn't care for the way she came out, and hated that they used her for a Halloween Ep. This said the Christmas Ep really surpassed all my expectations and IMHO stands as the best Ep of the whole Season. I'd give Supper Cider Squeezy 6k, and Putting Your Hoof Down for special mention. But, no S2 it just felt like it missed a tick to me. |
| TheLoneLampman #1320256 2 months ago |
I'll skip any specifics, but season 2's pitfalls were emphasized by the many supremely grand moments.
Season 1 was more consistant, but Season 2 had some hellacious peaks. |
