It's where the changelings came from... I think it's intended to be outside of Equestria's border/rule. A lawless, awful place. It gives the changelings good motive for trying to conquer Equestria, since their home is shitty and desolate. |

There were some videos by someone from the studio about how he made some scenes. One of them featured a few new backgrounds that didn't appear so far. One of them looked like it could origin from here. It also had a cage in it, if someone knows which one I mean. |

I'd say that region is a badlands within, but not a part of, Equestria, and the changelings just didn't have the nerve to attack until the wedding. And considering the changelings are pony-shaped bugs, My Little Pony + Mushihimesama "Make it Happen" anyone? |
