Pestilence and Conquest are the very same horseman. Modern interpretations change the two out a little, but Conquest was the original title. |

My take on it:
Nightmare Moon = Conquest. She attempted to conquer Equestria and make it her own. Discord = War. His whole goal was to create chaos by turning everypony against each other. You don't get much more warlike than that. Chrysalis = Famine. The changelings are really locust-like and their explicit goal is to feed on the ponies. ? = Death. Season 3 is going to have a really really nasty villain. |

The story of the four horsemen has changed over time, all the horsemen except Death have changed with the ages, and their are multiple stories with variations from famine, to pestilence, to conquest, to war. Death was the only truely "Named" horsemen of the bunch, and is the only one to appear in all variations. |

Thesaurus suggests conquest and war are very close.
Four horsemen of apocalypse represented the causes that could bring supreme chaos and disorder into the world at large. Pestilence (which can in no way be named a conquest) represented plagues. Epidemics were a very tangible and serious threat in dark ages. The most reasonable distribution would be, IMHO, this. Chrysalis - Famine. Her hunger is the driving force behind her evils. Discord - Pestilence. Plague of insanity is in no way better then plague of pox. Nightmare Moon - War. She wanted to take the kingdom for her own, pure and simple. Windigoes - Death. Some might view them as famine, but... they don`t seem to consume the hatred and despair per ce, they`d rather relish in it. |

War, two related groups fighting. Famine, a nation starves to death. Pestilence, disease spreads and scavengers come in to clean up. Death. |
