Discord was more entertaining, but Chrysalis was more sickeningly sweet evil. Discord is more powerful, but Chrysalis is creepier. Discord has the design of a generation V Pokemon, while Chrysalis has one of the best designs of anything. Discord relies on his own power, Chrysalis relies on her subjects. Discord did it to regain his throne, Chrysalis did it to keep her subjects alive. It depends on what you consider better.

Discord. (Aside from Spike's moustache). None of the others compare. Discord wasn't even trying and it seems clear Celestia couldn't beat him. He was also a fun/interesting villain. 1 and 3 felt pretty generic as villains.

End of problem, next. 4) Now this chump got his act together, framing Rainbow Dash for Rarity's murder, setting up a terrorist attack to steal the elements of harmony, and usurping the throne from the princesses by using Twilight as an unwitting suicide bomber. I kinda disliked this villain because of how she was defeated. Nightmare Moon can be forgiven for the fact that she didn't realize the elements could be restored by finding ponies who matched with the abstract concepts they represented. Discord managed to render them unable to use the elements and was only defeated because of Celestia's letters. The Changling Queen was defeated by her own stupidity plain and simple, when Cadence said her love would give shining the power to repel the changlings she scoffed despite the fact that she attributed her ability to defeat Celestia in single combat to Shining's love for Cadence, heck if she'd left Twilight alone after the wedding rehearsal Twilight would have probably just assumed her suspicions had been wrong. In my opinion 2>1>3>4

I'd have to say Chrysalis. Nightmare Moon's role was diminished because of the episode's focus on Twilight and her friends, but I honestly feel she wasn't threatening enough. The best she could throw at them were easily defeated challenges - only Rainbow's posed any chance of being successful. Discord's episode was all about him and his involvement with Equestria, so of course he was guaranteed to have a big part in it, and he was brilliant. He was able to break every single character, even Twilight, with his powers. His voice actor has to be one of the best guest roles in the series. Chrysalis, like NMM, had a diminished role, because of the episodes' focusing on Twilight and Shining Armor. However, she was able to pull off the role fantastically and be incredibly threatening to boot. Her motives were clear, and she was able to completely prevent the mane 6 from reaching and harnessing the Elements, something which even Discord failed to do completely. She was also able to defeat Celestia one-on-one and completely subjugate Canterlot after fooling each and every single citizen with her disguise. Of course, all three fell victim to overconfidence, but to be fair, when you've got one pony with apparently no method to harness the Elements, the power to drain the Element from its respective embodiment, and minions who could prevent them from reaching said Elements and pose a very real threat to Equestria, overconfidence is allowed. And then Chrysalis is of course the only one to get a song. In fact, make that two. Long story short, Chrysalis wins, but only by a narrow margin.

#177 I totally agree with your statement. Because, people, think about Chrysalis. She actually managed to defeat Princess Celestia, her minions actually managed to prevent Twilight and her friends from getting the Elements of Harmony and she also has a villain song that is awesome. To be honest in my opinion, she was about as successful as all the major Disney Villains: Scar, Frollo, Lady Termaine, Curella De Vil, Ursula you name it.

Hmm, tough one really. Chrysalis has the best appearance, Discord had the most stylish villainy and by far the most powerful but Nightmare Moon, ever the blunt instrument, would have basically just killed all life... eventually. So I'll have to go with Cupcakes!Pinkie Pie. Hah, just kidding... she's not in that list so I can't vote for her and there's these pesky notions like 'canon' and 'kid's show' that kinda stop the others from actually winning in the end like she does. Perhaps just a bit unfair. The problem is that far too many villains, and all of our canon fare, suffer from being completely stupid and just stand around while [This Spell Ends You] is charging up. Can't you at least *try* to attack the heroes while it happens? Make an effort to stop it, even if you might still get hit during your charge, it'd still be far more convincing. Ultimately though, I'd have to vote Chrysalis on how much I like her look with that decayed, ruined form. Pretty surprising to see something like that in the show really - suspecting someone's going to have nightmares over that. And at least Chrysalis (probably) knew the Elements would be too dangerous and put a ton of changelings in that hall to defend them. Still stood there during the love vortex though.
